Rating: Summary: It really did change my life.... Review: Encouraged by the reviews of the book, upon purchase and brief study, I say that it would be the most valuable book in the library of a martial artist. To read this book, you need 1)A bit of patience, and 2)An open mind and not a slave to the controversial Science of todayTo me, Sensei Sugiyama will be one of the fathers of Karate.
Rating: Summary: ZERO STARS Review: From my martial arts training in the past I can tell you that AT LEAST some the things in this book are true and basic. I have yet to really dive into the techniques and try everything seriously. There are many pictures and diagrams to aid you and step by step instructions on how to do things. I wish there was some theory behind the instructions given and not just "how to" directions (although, all of you crazy dbz fans would be happy with just "how to" directions). I don't know if it works because I haven't really tried anything in this book more than a few days(that's why I give it a 3 star rating). Very interesting concepts though.
Rating: Summary: Aura, Ki & Healing Review: I would like to strongly recommend Shojiro Sugiyama's book Aura, Ki & Healing. It lays out the fundamental concepts of Ki in a clear an concise manner. Unlike other books on the topic, there is a balance between the internal (nai-ki) and external (gai-ki) applications of Ki. I believe that Mr. Sugiyama benefits from both experience and much research into the development and uses of Ki both for martail arts and healing. The exercises he recommends really do help the student become aware of their own energy and the energy of others. I would like to recommend this book to anyone looking for information on how to develop their own sensitivity to Ki. Those for whom Ki is a new or otherwise dubious subject, this book will challenge the them to maintain an open mind as they explore the possibilties of a very long held tradition in Chinese and Japanese culture.
Rating: Summary: Connecting cultures Review: It's amazing to read this Amazon's edition of such a readable book!. Sugiyama Sensei has the uncommon capacity to fill the gap between the Occidental and Oriental ways of thinking, the former more prone to scientific explanations, the latter more proclive to accept knowledge based on empirical data.
Rating: Summary: ZERO STARS Review: just take your money and flush it down the toilet, you may feel like less of a fool than I felt like, when I saw the trash I had wasted my money on.
Rating: Summary: It is the best self teaching toll usefull in everyday life Review: The Book "Aura, Ki and Healing" is a most comprehensive explanatory tool for intelligent person and for dummy. I consider myself a dummy, even though, I have two master degrees (MBA from Kellogg and Engineering)and like detailed explanations of everything. I participated in healing workshops and have read many martial arts books. I have been practicing karate for more than 15 years. This book builds a powerful link between the art of defense and internal power. Both combined can increase significantly your strengths and predictability of the opponent intentions. Simple exercises in a matter of days will give you ability to realize your own power and the power of the opponent before engaging into sparring. In business meetings and negotiations I am able now to foster positive energy between me and negotiation side. My wife is a hillier and she loves mr. Sugiyama's exercises because she really can sense the power of "Ki" so necessary in her everyday life. We both practice by this book every morning. Thank you Sansei.
Rating: Summary: The Ki Push Review: This book is a great book,as you all know the way of martial arts is incomplete without development of internal energy and Ki ,Aura and Healing is great book which can help you start from scratch..This book is great..
Rating: Summary: Excellent! One of Its Kind Book on Ki and Its Amazing Powers Review: What really is that elusive "Ki" energy? How to develop and harness it to enrich our martial arts as well as our everyday experience? Aura, Ki & Healing, written by a karate veteran and a true teacher and educator, answers those questions through countless examples, so brilliantly illustrated and explained. The book also provides the reader with many other insights on karate, Ki-breathing and Ki-meditation, insights on collecting Ki from around us, transmitting Ki around the world and utilizing Ki to heal injuries and ailments. While the exercises from Aura, Ki & Healing supplement my karate practice, surely you do not need to be involved in martial arts to do or benefit from them. As the book makes it clear, the principles of Ki are universal: they apply equally on the martial arts floor, the golf course, shooting range, classroom or in the workplace.
Rating: Summary: My thoughts on Aura, Ki, & healing Review: When I first began studying Karate under Sensei Sugiyama, I remember feeling somewhat bewildered at the amount of time and attention we had to devote toward the cultivation and manipulation of "ki" energy. Unlike his more experienced students, I had difficulties dealing with this seemingly intangible force. This soon changed as I not only began to physically send and receive ki energy, I was able to see the aura generated by this energy around my hands and other people in the class. The lessons featured in Shojiro Sugiyama's 'Aura, Ki, & Healing' guide the reader in a step by step manner toward unleashing and controlling this innate energy. The writing and illustrations are concise and easy to understand. I recommend this book for anyone (whether they be students of the martial arts or not) who might be interested in developing better self-maintenance skills.
