Rating: Summary: The Golden Voices of Football Review: This book by my friend, Ted Patterson, took over thirty years in the making. Ted always the consummate sports lover decided when in college in the mid-sixties to interview sportscasters from all walks of life. He traveled on a shoe-string budget over the East and Mid-west to interview as many sportscasters as he could find. His fifth book entitled THE GOLDEN VOICES OF BASEBALL, published by Sports Publishing, L.L.C., came out in November of 2002.
As a companion in the series, THE GOLDEN VOICES OF FOOTBALL, also published by Sports Publishing, contains personal interviews with such greats as Bill Stern, Joe Tucker, Ken Coleman, Bob Wolff, Curt Gowdy, Howard Cosell, Ernie Harwell, Bob Ufer, Keith Jackson, Jack Buck and many other golden voices from a by-gone era. Actually, I helped Ted with the original organization in the late sixties when his tapes became his Master's thesis at Miami University, and I came back to help him 34 years later with the football book.
The book is beautifully written, has a plethora of wonderful pictures (many from Ted's own collection, plus artwork done by Mr. Patterson himself years ago) and a companion CD with 69 tracks taken from the exact interviews Ted did oh so many years ago. There is also play-by-play interaction as well.
This book would make a great addition to anyone's sports collection, and I would recommend it highly. You may check out Ted's website, www.tedmpatterson.com for all Ted's books. My hat is off to Mr. Patterson for a job well done along with many well-deserving kudos.
