Summary: The funniest book I have ever read.
Review: Nothing is sacred. Donald Hays manages to offend everyone in this book about minor league baseball in the deep south. If this book doesn't make you laugh, you're dead.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Wild Bunch Full of Surprises!!!!!
Review: The Arkansas Red, a wild bunch!!! Who else than a bunch of athletes. Athletes with dreams, hopes and desires. Also, athletes with sex problems, terrible times, and crazy nights. I enjoyed how Donald Hays provided true color throughout the novel. He provided clear pictures of their lives on and off the field. This novel is exactly how life is seen throughout the eyes of an athlete .....the good times, the bad times, the losses and the victory. Who else than a bunch of wild, horny crazy athletes??

Summary: Unconventional baseball wisdom
Review: The Dixie Association which is about a team of outsiders who come together and create a chemistry that is unforgettable. The book details a season throught the eyes of Hog Durham, a ex-convict. His blunt, yet persuasive analysis of baseball is intriging and also repulsive by way of his language. Though repulsive, the language is manageable by way of being able to identify with Hog Durham and the times in which the story takes place.
The manager named Lefty Marks is the one who provides the best of the book. His unconvential wisdom of life and baseball are a view in which is not used enough because it is seen as American political taboo. He provides a refreshing and heartful determination to do the things in which make him feel successful, without money standing in the way. Some may view him as throwing away his life while most who understand his points will respect and appreciate his unconventional wisdom.
The Dixie Association while harsh on racial sensitivity is a joyous read that almost anyone can read. The story is simple but the characters are full of explosive personalities that protect a weak story. This is by far the most entertaining baseball book ever written.

Summary: A most spectacular tale to get lost in.
Review: The dixie association brought out many controversial issues and relates them to the greatest game of all time, the american pastime. I love the mythodical ways in which Hays describes the love of the game, regardless of your religion, race, gender or nationality. It doesn't matter who you are if you play ball you're just another ball player. The arkansas reds provide a place for all to belong to and that is what gives the story a sense of loyalty. Most of the players know that this is there one chance to shine and they live it up! I love this book because it shows the many ideas that are common to everyone but know one ever stands up and says. This books creates a voice in which all can be heard.

Summary: Once you pick it up, you can't put it down!
Review: The Dixie Association is a great book. Through this novel, not only did I grow respect for Donald Hays but also for the history of baseball. It talks about life, history, and the spirit of the American sport that we all love, baseball.

Summary: A hot item all athletes should read.
Review: The Dixie Association is an excellent book. It constantly has new twists and turns, some expected, some not.

As an athlete, I feel all athletes should have the same attitude as Hog, the main character. He is not playing for the money, but for the love of the sport. Now days, professional athlete feel they deserve a huge sum of money just to play a game they played for free as little kids. I think all athletes should read this book for a new perspective about the games they love.

Summary: The Dixie Association depicts the realities of such a time.
Review: The Dixie Association not only depicts the racial tenacities and gender issues, but it generalizes a time of ignorance, confusion, and a time to still see the fun and humor in things regardless of what ever else was occurring.
The book has an amazing continuity of descriptive words that flow from one page to another. I have yet to finish the book, but I know it will keep me entertained.

I find that Hog is wanting to fall in love, yet he's everso scared of what and how it might feel to be loved by someone else. It is quite interesting to see how he is in fact growing up.I also see that the other characters are just trying to find themselves and have a freedom to speak their own minds, however, doing this can get them in a little bit of trouble.

Unfortunately, the book depicts the rascism at such a point that a classmate of mine refused to read the book because the words were extremely racial. As a Hispanic and a woman, I find this book to be somewhat degrading, however, I understand that the author is portraying a time in which people felt and thought that it was normal to act violently towards people not of their own race.

All in all, I know that people will be able to understand more fully of how different people were being treated and how those particular people handled their situations.I hope that other people reading this book can just simply imagine how those particular times were and maybe realize that it isn't morally right to be so hateful towards their own people- we are all human beings. This book has opened my eyes a lot more. I knew a lot of the racial struggles that occurred during that time period, but I can now see things in a different light! I can't wait to finish the book.

Summary: Convict Baseball
Review: The Dixie Association was a well written and thought out novel, written by an author who knew how to grab his audiences attention. A baseball team full of rejects that noone wanted around and did not have any respect for, but they knew the game of baseball and that is what they all loved and it is all that mattered to them. Donald Hays writes the book through an ex-convicts eyes. With the rudeness, foul language, and racists remarks the author offends everyone. In all I really liked the novel and give it a thumbs up, cause I could actually read the book without dreaading it.
