Summary: High and outside
Review: Being a life-long Giants fan and probably only one of a few who has seen them play in four different home ballparks, perhaps I became too excited when I first learned of the pending release of this book and allowed my expectations to reach an unrealistic high. This would account for the major level of disappointment I felt upon obtaining and reading this book. It was horribly proofed and had the appearance of being hurridly put together. I was suprised more information about the manner in which the team came to New York from Troy, NY was not presented. I found the statistical data to be relatively useless and often contradictory to data found in the 3 major references of baseball statistics. Overall, this is not a very good reference and certainly beneath the work Mr. Peters has previously published about the Giants. Too bad, a little more effort could have produced a much better book, now we will have to wait for the next one.

Summary: Go Giants!
Review: For nearly 20 years, I have been following the Giants, researching their history and collecting their autographs and memorabilia. I first became a Giants' fan as a 12-year-old in 1982 when I had the good fortune of meeting some of the players (Jack Clark, Darrell Evans, Greg Minton and Joe Morgan), as well as manager Frank Robinson. So working on "The Giants Encyclopedia" truly has been a labor of love. It is my goal that this 600-page book will be the most comprehensive history of the franchise ever written. Included are year-by-year reviews of the Giants' 117 seasons in New York and San Francisco; biographies of prominent owners, front office personnel, managers, players, broadcasters and ballparks; and recaps of every postseason game and no-hitter. I am particularly excited about our compilation of honors, records, statistics and other fun facts and figures (including many that have never been published before). From Mickey Welch to John McGraw, Carl Hubbell to Willie Mays, Willie McCovey to Barry Bonds and many, many more. The text is enhanced with several hundred photographs. One of the thrills of this project was working with and getting to know my co-author, Nick Peters. Not only is Nick an outstanding writer and knowledgeable baseball authority, he is a first-class human being. On behalf of Nick and myself, we sincerely hope you enjoy "The Giants Encyclopedia." Go Giants!
