Summary: Decent, But Disappointing
Review: After reading Friday Night Lights, an excellent book about high school football in Odessa, Texas, I felt that I had to read its basketball version, Fall River Dreams. Though the book had its moments, it was no Friday Night Lights and was, in my humble opinion, very average because it never really drew me in.

Summary: Brought back many memories
Review: As a former Durfee High School student in the early 70's, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It brought back many memories and was especially delightful to read about familiar people. Fall River has a very interesting and varied history. The author was able to pull all of the information together, making for easy reading.

Summary: Fall River Dreams is a must-read book!!
Review: Fall River Dreams describes the journey of Durfee High School's Hilltopper Basketball Team. Chris Herren is the star and the hope of Fall River to achieve greatness. Being from Fall River, I appreciated Fall River Dreams first hand. If anyone wants a book that describes the journey of achieving one's dream, then read this one.

Summary: Fall Rivers Dream puts you in a readers ZONE!
Review: Fall River Dreams is a book that you will read from cover to cover without wanting to put it down. Chris Herren is very kind to children and a prime time player. Wish him a prosperous career in the N.B.A and that he uses his gifts as a tool to be a positive influence for the youth of the world.

Summary: ONE OF THE GREATEST SPORTS BOOKS I'VE EVER READ!
Review: Fall River Dreams was one of those books you wished would never end! I became immersed in this book, as these characters become a part of you.The star player, living in his brothers'shadow, and the pressure of living up to his legacy of bringing home a state championship. The coach,a legend himself in his hometown, trying to go out with one more championship, and dealing with this 'new breed'of kids. The players, the benchwarmers, and those who seek their own moment of glory. And lastly, the town, that has once seen better days,as it struggles with it's existence all while pinning it's hopes on a High School basketball team, to make it feel that the town still has it's pride, along with their passion for the game! I compare this book to the excellent "Hoop Dreams",as that you both feel for their characters, and find yourself rooting for them. Much has happened to the main character, Chris Herren, from the time Fall River Dreams ends, to the start of his rookie season with the Denver Nuggets. I won't reveal them here. The are documented in excellent articles in author Bill Reynolds column in The Providence Journal. I'm hoping that Mr.Reynolds continues telling us more, with a sequel of the team and the town that captured my heart, soul and passion of hometown sports! This book won't disapoint you!

Summary: There is a thing called hype
Review: Fall River is not as poor as the book suggests and it is more diverse than discribed. There are several truths, but nearly as much misrepresentation. The 'alterations' made for a better story, but is insulting to those of us who grew up there in the 80s and 90s.

Summary: This book was informative for me.
Review: I am a huge Chris Herren fan so this book was a great source of information about him. I have many friends who did reports on this. For basketball lovers this book will make you fall in love with characters.

Summary: had its ups and downs
Review: I am Massachusetts high school basketball fan. I enjoyed the author's insight into Fall River High School basketball, the coaches and the players.

I particularly liked his depiction of life in Fall River for the players and the coaches.

I was bored to tears with the reoccurring histories of towns and cities in southeastern Massachusetts. I was hard pressed to stay awake during his tracing of the lineages of all characters connected to the book.

Summary: Fall River Dreams: A Team's Quest for Glory
Review: I grew up in Fall River and graduated from Durfee High in 1976. This book was so accurate in its descriptions of the city, the schools, the people, it was amazing! Our high schools days revolved around Tues and Sat night basketball games in the old Armory. The basketball players were idolized, the cheerleader were envied. I always had such ambivilant feelings about growing up in Fall River and this book really helped me to understand many of my feelings and why I left and barely looked back. I now have three sons and it made me put the whole "sports" thing in more perspective. There IS life beyond Fall River and basketball!
