Rating: Summary: Tepper represents mediocracy at its best Review: Lou Tepper has demonstrated in the past 4-5 years that his coaching abilities may either be far outdated or just bad. Guiding his defense the past two years to the worst overall rating in the school's history shows his inability to coach quality players successfully. Tepper needs to "reinvent" his coaching techniques to adjust to the student-athlete of the 21st century.
Rating: Summary: The Worst Coach Ever Review: Lou Tepper is the worst coach in the history of the game. His career can be summed up in one play: 1st and goal vs. Minnesota in a game at the Metrodome in 1996. Illinois was leading at the time. The ball is approximately on the 1 or 2 yard line. It's hard to remember, because I have tried so hard for the past 7 years to remove this awful moment from my mind.....Anyway, Tepper calls timeout to decide what to do. What a great game. Illinois' running back, Robert Holcombe, had rushed for 315 yards. He carried the team on his shoulders. Not knowing what to do, Tepper looked to his wonderful book "Complete Linebacking" for the answer. There it was, in big bold letters at the beginning of chapter 3: "If you are winning the game with less than one minute to go, and the opponent is driving inside your 5 yard line, call timeout quickly. Bring your defense to the sideline, look them all straight in the eye, and say with enthusiasm, 'It's OK, guys. We're gonna let them score. And Weaver(Scott Weaver, '97) is gonna win this one for us." There it was, clearly. The book held the answer. So what did Tepper do? He let Minnesota score. Inside of 30 seconds left in the game. On that day, Lou Tepper brought shame to his profession. His book should be called "Complete Quitting", not Linebacking. Lou Tepper is a coward. He is a loser. And if you buy his book and practice by Tepper's ways....you'll be a loser too. Follow Tepper's coaching trail. He's at at Edinborough College in PA....and guess what? He's still a loser. He's so awful that the Society Against Lou Tepper (S.A.L.T.) was formed at two schools (UI, LSU). Don't believe me? Look it up on gooogle! Trust me....there isn't one word of advice in this book that is ever worth repeating on a football field. He who reads and believes in this book, is doomed to be a Tepperite and a loser forever. May God help all of those whose lives Tepper has made worse!

Rating: Summary: burn it!! Review: Lou Tepper knows very little of linebacking. You want to learn linebacking??? Try something else this guy is lost.
Rating: Summary: The title says it all! Review: Lou Tepper's Complete Linebacking is an outstanding book. I have not read anything concerned with linebacker play that can even come close to Tepper's manual. He presents a thorough discussion of every aspect of the position. The book presents a logical teaching progression for both inside and outside linebackers. Everything is covered. Stance, taking on blocks, pressing backs, zone coverage, man coverage, pre-snap reads are just some of the topics discussed. Someone with very little knowledge of the linebacker position can pick up Tepper's book and in a short time become enlightened in the area of linebacker play. It is interesting that the only negative reviews that the book has received come from LSU fans. It seems that these critics want to bash the book simply because Tepper served as defensive coordinator for a couple of years at LSU. This is not fair to Tepper or his book. For the past forty years, LSU has been a lower-echelon team within the Southeastern Conference. These critics want to bash a man who spent just a few years in Baton Rouge. What about all the other years that he was not associated with LSU. It seems that Tepper has become the scapegoat for many LSU fans that dream of greatness only to be dissapointed year after year. Tepper's book is a manual about coaching linebackers. This is what it should be judged on.
Rating: Summary: "Drop" Linebackers...LOL! Review: The "Reader" from Baton Rouge (January, 27, 2001)and "klabbath" seem to take joy in calling LSU (Which Finished #7 Nationally in 2001)a "Lower echelon team". Which is interesting as LSU is Always a Perennial Top 20 team. Tepper's book is not for a Linebacker playing the game in today's world. Lou Tepper took an LSU Program fresh off a Bowl Win over Notre Dame, highly ranked before the season, and proceeded to Produce The Worst Defensive team LSU has EVER fielded. He was fired as the Head Coach at Illinois and an internet site called S.A.L.T (Students Against Lou Tepper)was formed while he was at Illinois. Two examples of How Tepper's Book/Philosiphy do not work: 1)ANY Coach in America knows better than to line you DBs up 10 yards off the line of scrimmage. 2) Real Coaches do NOT line up a LB'er with 4.8 speed (Recruited specifically by Lou Tepper)to cover a 4.3 Wide Receiver. Tepper once claimed Florida was using an "Exotic Offense"(??), while back in Reality, he had the DBs Backpeddling downfield & Florida would simply toss the ball 10 yards or less, and since the DBs were already lined up 10 yards behind the Line of Scrimmage, & backpeddling to boot, it resulted in a 20 yard gain. This lasted all game, with NO adjustments. His Infamous "Drop Linebacker" Position does not work. A Drop Linebacker is a Glorified Safety, that must possess Wide Receiver speed, yet be able to cover the Run up the Middle & Corner contain. In the SEC, that is a 240-250 Lbs LB'er with Legitimate 4.3 Speed. How many LB'ers have you seen with that Weight & Speed? Exactly. About those Player Stances in the book, *Several* High Profile SEC coaches quipped that these Silly stances Tepper devised, always gave away the Defensive scheme away. Lou Tepper is currently Losing at Division II Edinboro, Pa., with 5-6 & 4-7 seasons. At least he is far, far away from Division I talent. *LSU under the guidance of Nick Saban who has NFL Defensive experience, finished the 2002 season with the #8 Ranked Defense in the Nation. #2 in Pass Defense.

Rating: Summary: Complete Linebacking Volume 2 ? LOL! Review: The reviewer talking about LSU being a "Lower Echeleon" team in the SEC is woefully misguided, and needs to pick up a College Football record book. I am a Georgia fan, so I know of what I speak. I did read this book, mainly out of curiosity. It has become rather infamous with both LSU & Illinois fans. I have to agree with them "Complete Linebacking" is laughable, especially when you see it first hand! I saw Lou Tepper "Coach" both at LSU & Georgia & numerous times on TV. I remember QB Quincy Carter completed something like 24 consecutive passes against Tepper's incredibly poor defense. He also had a Linebacker cover Champ Bailey! Stupid? Well put it this way, Champ had fun that day! Just like the LSU guy said, Tepper did in fact line their DBs up 10 yards BEHIND the line of scrimmage, which is just not smart football, period. He never adjusted his Defenses to what was happening on the field. Fast forward 4 years, not only is LSU #1, but I had the misfortune of watching Saban's #1 Ranked Defense systematically dismantle one of the Best UGA teams in over a Decade TWICE in the same season. You want to see good Linebacking? Watch the play at the end of the 2004 National Championship where Oklahoma's Heisman QB Jason White was completly fooled by a perfectly disguised delayed MLB Rush & Sacked. LSU is the Defending National Champions of College Football. Saban was offered the Chicago Bears job, which he turned down to stay at LSU. Lou Tepper is coaching at some tiny school in PA. Draw your own conclusions...
Rating: Summary: "Drop" Linebackers...LOL! Review: This book covers all a coach needs to know on linebacking. This book will be beneficial for the new and seasoned coach. A must read for any defensive coach.
