Rating: Summary: Counting Coup Review: This book was enjoyable to read. There was not a moment when I wasn't interested in what the author was going to say next. The author, (Larry Colton) took a trip to an indian reservation where he became slightly obsessed with following a women's basketball team and more importantly a certain member of that team, Sharon LaForge. All in all I found this story easy to relate to, and not easy to predict.I enjoyed it immensely.
Rating: Summary: Counting Coup's a winner Review: After reading this book, I feel that I have a new understanding of what life on a rez could be like. Of course I understand that this story is most likely an example of 1% of rez life. But of what I have learned, I am very intrigued. This book was very detailed and was easy to follow. I could understand everything easily and I was kept very interested. The story of Sharon and her life... which includes so much; Her drunken mother, her chances at a basketball scholarship and a college education, as well as her trouble making friends and the constant injuries she incured. I liked this book alot and I recommend it to anyone who would enjoy reading a book on an extremely talented young girl, basketball or life on the rez. 4 STARS!!!
Rating: Summary: Sharon Life Review: Overall, I think this was a good book. I found it interesting on how Sharon runs her life. A life that doesn't reflects her familie's charateristics, and does what she please. Basketball being the second most important thing in her life was soon taken away from her when they lost, but later education replace it and made a her a more rounded person, even though Randy was still there bring her down, she will soon prove him wrong.
Rating: Summary: Counting Coup Review: The story takes place on an Indian Reservation in Montana. It's a true story about a talented young woman who plays basketball very well. The odds are against her in every way. Her mother's a drunk, she's an Indian (most Indians don't go to college) and she's not real motivated. The author Larry Colton, describes everything very well, from the troubles of the team, to the struggles of the girls personal lives. He lived there for a year and wrote about the young woman, Sharon. The book made me laugh, it made me cry, but most of all it touched my heart. Counting Coup showed me a new culture and way of living. I never knew so much about Indians until I read this book. It dealt with the struggles of youth, boyfriends, friends, parents, and getting into college. Most people I believe can relate to this story and I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Counting Coup Review: counting coup is about how Indians live their life on the rez. It mainly focuses on a young Indian and her love of basketball, but how she has some destractions in the way. Indians are known to be alcholics and abusive. It is sad how the Indians get treated because of the reputation they have. The basketball player does not know any better but to follow in the foot steps of her family, but the reporter tried to help her out. Indian on the rez feel sorry for themselves and waste their lives away. I think counting Coup is a good book to show that if you really want something no matter what is in your way you can achieve it.The young basketball player atleast made her way through college.
Rating: Summary: Some things never change Review: I found this book to be a very interesting book. I like the reality of the story told. Larry Colton was straight to the point and very honest and truthful about the lives of the Crows. I found his analogies and jokes to be very humorous, especially during his first sweat. I could not stop laughing at his reaction to it. It's very intreging to see how Sharon's life turned out. In a way it was for the better, but in a way it was just the way she grew up. I like how she became a college student when that was never even her dream. She lived a rough childhood with her mother not being present and it's amazing how good of a mother she was known to be. I guess since I played basketball in high school, much of the story, game wise, was something I could relate to. I enjoyed the book and am going to read his others.
Rating: Summary: Basketball love Review: I really thought this book was a great novel. I had never read anything with so much passion to make your dream come true. Through so much struggle and so much pain Sharon tries her hardest from the begining to the end. The author wrote the story so simple and easy to understand. Chapter after chapter it was so hard to stop reading cause I just wanted to find out want was gonna happened next. For a while I thought that Sharon would end up like her mother and I was so happy when I read to the part where she will go to school and was a great mother. I was kinda disappointed when I found out Randy was a drunk and would beat Sharon but overall the book was great because Sharon's dream came true. It made me realize that if you want something bad enough and try hard enough you can aim for it and it will come true.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed reading this book Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. This book tells us not only the basketball story or Sharon herself, but the real inside Rez life and how much author cared about Sharon. It was pretty interesting for me learning about Native-American's life especially Sharon's life.
Rating: Summary: counting coup Review: I felt this book was realistic and truthful. Colton did a nice job of telling the story and as a reader, he hooked me with all the stories of different character. I didnt view this book as looking down on indians, rather just telling the true story of what happens on the rez. He dosent protray all indians to be achoholics, just that many indians on a rez are. He puts no cushion around the lining of the story; just tells the story of Sharon and her life as an athlete, friend, and granddaughter. He tells the story, just like it unfolds.
Rating: Summary: i learned a lot from this book Review: i enjoy reading this book. we have to read this book for a reading class. but the more we read, the more i'm interest in this book. i can learn a lot about Sharon. and this rez socity is really different from what i thought it to be. but i also don't think every rez is like karna or randy. i think they can be better.
