Rating: Summary: The Best Technique Coaching Book There Is Review: Forget what the other reviewer said about not good for youth football. That's horse-hooey. Granted some of what is discussed is not going to work for youth, but much of it will. I am a youth coach. I own and am reading 50 plus books on coaching football. This is the best nuts-and-bolts book there is. Buy it and use it. Coach Bass does consider youth in his book. Just read the tackling instructions where he discusses fear of tackling in youth players and how to best overcome it. The book is well organized around positions and has tons of pictures of the techniques in action. The book has many times more pictures than any other book, save perhaps George Allens' book "Inside Football" might be a close second -- though much older.
Rating: Summary: Not for Youth Coaches Review: I ordered this book hoping to get a little more insight on coaching youth players ( 7 to 12 ). This book was a little to in depth for younger players. Would be a great book for H.S. or College coaches and players.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT PRESENTATION ON THE TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF FOOTBALL. Review: IF YOU ARE A COACH LOOKING FOR NEW DRILLS FOR YOUR PLAYERS, OR A PARENT WHO IS TRYING TO SHARPEN YOUR KIDS SKILLS, THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU. IT IS FULL OF DIAGRAMS AND DRILLS FOR EACH AREA OF THE TEAM. ESPECIALLY USEFUL ARE THE FOOTWORK DIAGRAMS WHICH ARE EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND TO TEACH. ALSO HELPFUL ARE THE COACHING POINTS THAT ARE GIVEN FOR SELECTED DRILLS. IN CLOSING, THE BOOK DOES NOT GO INTO MUCH DETAIL IN REGARDS TO STRATEGY, BUT IF THE DRILLS ARE FOLLOWED, YOU WILL HAVE TECHNICALLY PROFICIENT PLAYERS WHICH WILL SUIT ANY GAME PLAN YOU CHOOSE.
Rating: Summary: A book for coaches who believe in technique Review: This book covers a lot of territory in a hurry, but is packed with information. The book is divided into sections (offense, defense, etc.), and within each section, covers each position. Unlike Jack Reed or other authors, Bass is teaching technique, not theory or strategy. For example, learn eight ways to block, with a few drills to reinforce each method. I give this book to other coaches as presents.
