Rating: Summary: Aikido at it's best ! Review: Another guy from Hong Kong said the same thing, but this book is a different book than Total Aikido. This is a good book to study and review the basics, drill them in. This book is the scout that gets some of the goodness hinted at in Total Aikido into your head. (I study BJJ too, and these books bear the same relationship that Gene Simco's Master Text and Basics books do.)
Rating: Summary: complement total aikido Review: Another guy from Hong Kong said the same thing, but this book is a different book than Total Aikido. Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: First of all, this book is the reason why I started aikido. It's just great! The pictures are excellent, and the explanations are very clear. You can actually learn from them! I learned sankajo long before I ever joined aikido. Not that this book is a substitute for good quality instruction, it's a pretty basic book, but it's as clear as books get.
Rating: Summary: Great book, gives good overview of the art Review: Gozo Shioda was the founder of the Yoshinkan school of Aikido and studied for many years directly under Morihei Ueshiba, founder of Aikido. This book gives the reader a good overview of the art, with easy to understand photo series that break the different techniques down into easily understood stages. I really like the photo series at the back of the book that demonstrate practical uses of Aikido for self-defense.
Rating: Summary: Only for those who train in the Yoshinkan style of Aikido! Review: I bought this book when I was training in the Aikikai style of Aikido, and it didn't make sense. Everything was quite different from what I have been taught. Now I train in the Yoshinkan style of Aikido (which is much more structured and logical, in my opinion), and I rediscovered this book, which now makes perfect sense. I think the book should state more clearly that it is relevant only for one particular style of Aikido, otherwise it's misleading. The book is good as a reference and, accordingly, is very technical. If you are interested in reading more about the principles of Aikido or about its philosophy, then this book is not for you!
Rating: Summary: A COMPREHENSIVE KNOWLEDGE BOOK Review: I first bought the book Total Aikido which is truly a great book. But this doesn't mean that this book is not gonna be logical to buy to the fact that it has the same author. This book serves as a reference, a great reference, on learning aikido using the latter. Believe me, the author means business! Thanks to Gozo Shioda!
Rating: Summary: Aikido at it's best ! Review: I might be 14 years old, but I think this is a great book giving you the history of Aikido and many moves that you would use in the dojang, and in the streets for self-defense.I have been in Tae Kwon Do for a year now, but we still practice Aikido, so I know that all these methods of self-defense are great and work well. This book is for beginners, but it teaches you throws by moving his wrist a direction, and many locks by having his arm twisted while you sit on him. This book even has moves you can do while your on your knees. This book has 160 pges self-defense.Thank you for read this paraghraph about Dynamic AIKIDO by Gozo Shioda
Rating: Summary: Gozo Shioda sensei knows what he's talking about. Review: This book explains basic techniques of Aikido as taught by the Yoshinkan Aikido orgnanization, though it has something to teach to all aikidoka. It includes very explanatory pictures of the techniques from varied points of view, so that the reader may actually get a good idea of the way a certain move is done and in which direction to apply his or her weight.
I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Only for those who train in the Yoshinkan style of Aikido! Review: This book has one of the best step-by-step illustrations. Very clear and informative.
