Summary: The Lost Art of the Golf Swing
Review: John Redman teaches the golf swing in its purest form. His method has been popularized by golf greats Bobby Jones, Percy Boomer and Tommy Armour. His swing is sometimes called the "older" or "drag back" method because it concentrates on the passive use of the hands and arms. According to Redman the power of the golf swing takes place with the lower body, mainly a natural single axis swing around the spine with all of the power being generated by a level hip and shoulder turn. (Remember Percy Boomer's famous axiom about "turning in a barrel?") In contradistinction to this method most modern tour players and teachers teach a two axis turn. This is often characterized by the Jimmy Ballard lateral move. Unfortunately, this is much harder to perfect and physically coordinate than Redmans method. Subsequently, according to Redman many amateurs come outside the line and "over the top." Slice... slice... slice! Redmans prize student is the famous golf pro and major tournament winner Paul Azinger. Many illustrations of Paul's swing are included in the book. If you are looking for an easier more relaxed way to create club head speed and a golf swing that you can use for a lifetime, then you should order this book before your next round.

Summary: Best golf instruction I've EVER read. Amazingly simple.
Review: The only way this unique book could NOT improve your game is if you absolutely insist on convention and complication. Although not as marquee a teaching name as Ledbetter, Harmon, or Flick, Redman has played with and been taught by Tommy Armour, Sam Snead, and Julius Boros, among others. If a new golfer asked me for advice, I would advise him or her to get this book, read it thoroughly, and toss aside all other instruction. The method Redman teaches is that effective

Summary: Golf Swing
Review: This is a highly personal instruction from a well known teacher. I liked the book very much and found it to be an effortless read. His teachings however are away from mainstream. The "modern swing" teaching currently promotes a very limited and passive hip turn. I am sure his swing method is a very effective for a segment of the golfing population but I would like to hear analysis of the Redman method by other recognized swing experts to get a balanced perspective on its place in the swing-world. Besides Paul Azinger are the well known practitioners of this method? Also, I could have used a little more detail in some areas of the book, i.e. arm movement on the backswing. A pitfalls section anticipating the common problems the Redman golfer is likely to encounter on off days would be helpful. An accompanying video to show the swing in action and a few more picture sequences in the book (like a top view or behind view) would be welcome. Also some further analysis on the technical ramifications of a large active hip swing on the swing aimed at the reader who wants to the know why as much as how-to would be helpful. I used this book and it works, but I think it screams for a more detailed second edition with some of the above recommendations.

Summary: Super golf how-to book
Review: This little book sure did change my golf life. I was a miserable hacker until I decided to pick one golf system and stick with it. John Redman's system seemed logical and it worked for me. There's no magical formula and it does take time and practice, the Redman system works...for me, anyway.
