Rating: Summary: Failure to connect between yoga and the golf swing Review: After reading it, I was VERY disappointed. The book is all about the standard yoga practices, which one can get from hundreds of yoga books or video out there, or BETTER YET from a live yoga teacher. The author FAILED to show readers (1) how to apply the yoga balance techniques into the actual golf stance and swing, (2) how to apply the yoga breathing techniques into the walk down the fairway, the swing, the putt so that one can stay in the moment and improve their game. The author used a story about Tiger Woods's breaths were long and steady before he putted but his breath was silent as he struck the ball and Ernie Els exhaled as he hit the putt. But then the author failed to use Yoga principles to explore WHY these 2 succesful golfers did what they did and HOW the reader can take the yoga practices to the course. The author, being a 4 handicap golfer and a yoga teacher to many golfers, also did NOT mention how he had applied Yoga to his playing golf and how yoga had helped many of his clients, specifically in improving his and their golf games.
Rating: Summary: Just what you need to get an edge on your golf game Review: Based on all that I've read, yoga is the ideal companion activity for almost any competitive sport. I've always had trouble finding the time to practive it, though. What I loved about this book is that it's designed to help you launch a yoga practice that will fit your schedule and individual needs. It's a very practical guide that provides detailed and illustrated instructions for each posture and breathing technique. At the back of the book, fourteen days of lessons are presented with photographs and step-by-step directions, along with six short sessions that focus, in part, on pre-golf warm up. This book is exactly what I needed to start a yoga program and get an edge on my game.
Rating: Summary: This book could be the best club in your bag Review: Golfers from Annika Sorentstam to Ty Tryon are using yoga to enhance their game. I was excited to find a book that could give me the yoga foundation to take my game to the next level. The Golfers Book of Yoga promotes a mind and body approach to golf fitness that will notably enhance your game. It presents yoga in a clear accessible manner with the specific needs of the golfer in mind and offers a simple framework for improving your game by developing balance, coordination, strength, flexibility and concentration. This could definitely be the most important club in my bag.
Rating: Summary: Great resource, informative, practical Review: I recently received a copy as a gift, and thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author writes in a practical, easy to understand way. The illustrations are great (no pictures of yogis tied up in pretzels...) The book is really accessible, and great for anyone who either golfs, practices yoga, or wants to learn more about either discipline. Highly recommended.

Rating: Summary: Strictly a yoga book, not a golf improvement book Review: I was disappointed after reading this book. It really is another yoga book like many others out there and a waste of my [money]. Being a 4 handicap golfer and a yoga teacher, the author FAILED to connect the 2 together in a practical manner and show some innovative thoughts. How did yoga help the author's golf game or the other students he taught?. On one hand, he wrote : Each yoga posture is really an invitation to enter the zone to quiet down and become aware, but then showed the yoga poses practiced in a studio. How practical is that ? The author assumed that by practicing yoga poses in a studio on a sticky mat, we would magically be a better golfer. The author talked about Tiger Woods breathed long and steady while preparing for a putt but his breath was silent as Tiger struck the ball. On the other hand, Ernie Els exhaled as he putted. Unfortunately, he then did not explore further why and how yoga breathing techniques can help before, during and after each swing, chip or putt. The author talked about balance and that many people at the driving range were lunging and reaching, throwing themselves out of balance. But then he did not explore how yoga poses can be useful for maitaining balance in a golf stance or a putting stance. Sadly, with his knowledge of golf and yoga, the author did not show how one can implement yoga breathing, balance and flexibility into every aspects of our golf game to bring it to the next level. As a beginner's yoga book, it gets a B but as a golf book, it deserves a D- or F.
Rating: Summary: A great way to improve your golf mindset Review: The physical stretching exercises illustrated in this book are great for strengthening your back and improving your balance. But golfers wants to go beyond a well-stretched and flexible body. Having a strong mental is equally as important. Of all sports golf can truly be a mental minefield. Golfers who don't grasp the nuances of the mental aspects of the game never master it and often give it up. By incorporating the essential elements of yoga that THE GOLFER'S BOOK OF YOGA presents, you can develop the concentration that golf demands. Learning the postures and breathing techniques is at the core of THE GOLFER'S BOOK OF YOGA. But first the reader will find chapters in which yoga is defined, the mind / body connection is discussed, the power of the breath is explored and the foundation qualities of the swing laid out. Time invested in the practice of Yoga will make your other time more valuable. Golf may indeed be "the greatest game ever created" And, the practice of yoga will prepare you to play it better and enjoy it even more.
Rating: Summary: Good practical guide to how yoga helps your golf game Review: This book is very easy to use. The 14 day lesson plan was shown in photo spreads that made it clear how to put together a yoga practice. I have given the book to a couple of friends now who have been pleased with it because of its practical, down-to-earth approach.
