Summary: A dummy had to have written this.
Review: I know very little about horses but apparently I know more than the person who wrote this book. I bought this book to catch up with my wife's riding skills. What a joke. Do not even waste your time or money on this book. Purchase a book from Linda Tellington Jones or John Lyons instead if you really want to learn and understand what you are reading, and be able to apply it to your horse(s) later on.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Easy to Follow
Review: I really liked this book. The lessons are easy to read and cover subjects like "Finding a Stable," "Buying a Horse," and "Taking Care of a Horse." This is perfect for a beginning rider as it is very easy to understand and provides valuable insight into the horse world. All of the riding stuff was pretty basic (the first year of instruction), but everything else was fantastic.

Summary: Simple but effective
Review: I think this book was very helpful. I was new to horseback riding and this gave the basic information I needed to know, plus additional information I'll use in the future. If you are new to riding then I think this book will be beneficial for you, too.

Summary: Super Source of Practical and Down-to-earth Info
Review: In one page, this book clearly explained several concepts that it had taken me a year to figure out in lessons with a professional instructor. My husband is taking up riding, I gave him the book with post-its on the crucial pages, he is lucky to get a better start in riding than I ever did. And in plain, positive language, too!

Summary: a good start
Review: its not much compared to actual lessons with a private instructer but if you want to be prepared before your first lesson this works wonders! i even learned a few things and i am a very experienced rider.

Summary: Poorly Writen
Review: The organization of this book is very confusing. After chapters giving a pep talk, the author discusses riding in general, then gives just one basic chapter on Western and then English riding. I never knew quite where I was. The author brings up terms without defining them, and finally, some sentences are almost incomprehensible, requiring several readings. For example try to figure out "posting." And I still don't know what this sentence means: "In other words, if you are riding around the arean to the left, with rail on your right side and the middle of the arena on your left side, your horse should take the left lead, so that it can canter comfortably to the left while curved, or 'bent' slightly to the left."

Review: This book is definately in my book shelf, because it passed my reveiew of being a very helpful horse book! I think that readers would probably have to know a little bit about horses before reading it though. For instance, if they said to pick up your curry comb, people who knew nothing about horses would be like, huh? So, don't go by the title, "The IDIOT'S guide to horseback riding", because it takes a little more than an Idiot to read it. :)

This book contains so much useful information though! After reading Horses for Dummies, I found this book so much better. I don't think I would have been able to ride the canter if it weren't for this book! :)

Read it, and you won't regret it! :)
