Summary: If you want to know what Ju-Jitsu is, read this book.
Review: As a president of "Israel Ju-Jitsu Full Contact Association" I recommend this book very much. Every Ju-Jitsuan must have this book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great Reference
Review: As JuJitsu Books go, this is a top reference primer for all wishing to study or who are currently studying Ju-Jitsu. I am a Martial Arts Instructor and hold Shodan Ranks in Aikijujitsu, Judo, Budoshin Ju-Jitsu and Tae Kwon Do. This book along with Prof. Kirby's Intermediate Techniques Book is required reading for all my students. These books are excellent in their technique illustration and explanation. Will it work on the street? If practiced correctly, Heck yea!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A great book with lots of room for improvements.
Review: I have experiences in many martial arts and had done lots of streetfighting, and I can tell a working technique just by looking at pictures. In this sense, I must say that 75% of Prof. Kirby's moves works well. His armlocks, for example, are more effective than those of Aikido. However, being an experienced groundfighter, I must say that his ground escapes are weak. But it's not his fault. I'm sure he included it just as an afterthought, and GF were not popular by the time he wrote this book. It's very good that he included it on this book, considering that most other Jujitsu teachers omits ground moves on their books.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good cross reference for Aikidokas
Review: I like George's execution of locks and throws. While this book is good for beginners, I'd highly recommend the sequel to this book. That is a great reference for effective locks and throws.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Basic knowledge but no expertise
Review: It's obvious Kirby has a superficial knowledge of Jujitsu but even as an introductory book, this lacks depth.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: EVERY MARTIAL ARTIST MUST GET THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: Jujitsu is a parent art. That means a lot of popular martial arts like karate, judo, etc. can be traced back in history as jujitsu techniques. That makes jujitsu the ultimate martial art.

This book is very EXCELLENT!!! This book only teaches the basic and simple moves that can be mastered easily by anyone who wants to defend themselves against a violent attacker.

EVERYONE MUST GET THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Fantastic Martial Arts book
Review: Kirby does an excellent job of explaining the 'core' jujitsu moves that should be a part of every martial artist's repitore. The photos are excellent and the accompanying text really explain the intricacies of each technique.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great JuJitsu book for beginning and intermediate Jujitsuka
Review: Kirby explains the basic small joint manipulations you would expect in a JuJitsu book along with some throws. I like the techniques because they offer an alternative to utilizing potentially more damaging strikes.

I've practiced some of ideas shown in this book in my JuJitsu classes, and they work very well. I recommend that you get a friend to train with so that you can practice these moves; otherwise, you are not as likely to remember them in the event of an altercation.

Summary: Impractical
Review: The previous reviews must have come from students of theauthor's, or students of students of the author's. Perhaps friends ofthe author? I can't imagine anyone thinking this book is good. A good comedy, maybe.

The techniques in this Ju-Jitsu book are almost offensive in terms of practicality. And though he does outline some tactics and concepts for applying the techniques of this art, this is most likely a book for his students to read so they can brush up for their tests, but not for serious self-defense.

In fact, this is not a book for any one interested in learning self-defense. Buy the book if you want to get killed on the street. Otherwise avoid it, unless you're a student of the author, of course. I'd hate to see what the "Basic" book is like, and as funny as this particular book is, it's not worth the money to buy it, even for a good laugh.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good follow-up to Kirby's basic book on Jujitsu
Review: This book contains some valuable techniques and is worth owning (in my opinion). I personally use some of the ideas taught therein. For a Jujitsu book even more replete with techniques, however, I recommend his basic book on JuJitsu. I use several ideas from that guide, too.
