Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: THE WORLD'S BEST SELF-DEFENSE MANUAL!!! Review: After you've read the great books by noted authors Marc MacYoung, Gavin DeBecker, and Dr. N. Mashiro, this intermediate-level text will fill in all the blanks. REQUIRED READING for anyone who is truly serious about learning the uncensored truth about what it takes to prevail against multiple armed attackers. Anyone who gives this Master Work anything less than "5-Stars" obviously has not read it. A great book!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A MUST READ,MUST OWN,ONE OF A KIND! Review: BY FAR THE BEST TREATISE ON SELF DEFENSE THAT I HAVE READ. I WAS VERY SKEPTICAL ON BUYING MR. JAHN'S BOOK BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF INFO ON HIS BACKGAROUND SO I TOOK A CHANCE AFTER READING THE REVIEWS ON THE BOOK. AFTER READING THE FIRST CHAPTER I KNEW IT WAS A KEEPER. I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. THE FIRST CHAPTER ON MENTAL PREPARATION WAS REALLY WELL DONE, DEFINITELY THE BEST OUT THERE. MR. JAHN SEEMS TO REALLY KNOW HIS STUFF AND SHARES ALOT OF VALUABLE INFO. THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR YOU SELF DEFENSE LIBRARY. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED. NOT FOR THE MEEK!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I like it. Review: Great book. I use the principles in this book all the time in my self-defense seminars. I found the book to be more thought provoking than technique-orientated, but that's me.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: YESSSSSS. . . Review: I have found the Grail!!! Excellent, excellent book . . . I have read nearly every book published over the past 30 years pertaining to self-defense, streetfighting, knifefighting, and related topics, and have NEVER seen anything which even comes close to this masterpiece. Mister Jahn is the only author who has the cohones to really tell it like it is, and he does not pull any punches when it comes to expressing his opinions. "Hardcore" indeed! Some people are sure to be offended by this book, but the material speaks for itself. Mister Jahn really knows from whense he speaks. This book is divided into a number of sections. The best part was the chapter on "Mental Preparation." This information goes way above and beyond anything else available today. The chapters on "Invulnerability" (inconspicuous armor and advanced awareness techniques, "Rape Prevention," "Unarmed Combat," "Beltfighting," and "Handguns" were all great. The chapter entitled "Introduction to Knifefighting" was worth any three books on the subject, and the sections on improvised weapons and weapon selection were encyclopedic in scope. Easily the best self-defense book available at any price -- but be advised: this material is NOT for everyone! Brutally effective.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: OUTSTANDING!!! Review: I've studied martial arts for over ten years, and have read dozens of books purporting to be about "self-defense," but I learned a lot from this indispensible handbook. The chapter on "Mental Preparation" alone was well worth the price. Mister Jahn doesn't hold back, and a few of the techniques shocked even me, but fighting for one's life is a deadly serious matter, and he makes this clear in no uncertain terms. Definitely NOT FOR THE MEEK! This book was quick to read, easy to understand, and pretty amusing at times. I highly recommend it for anyone who is serious about learning the TRUTH about "self-defense."
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Hardcore Indeed Review: If one is serious about becoming more knowledgeable about self-defence, this is one book which should be on your short-list. No, there are no photos and diagrams in this text; however, the book contains a ton of must-know information. This book hammers home the point that self-defence is no game. There is absolutely nothing glamorous about violence - it isn't pretty. To defend yourself successfully, you must act quickly and decisively. In addition you must be prepared to use brutal techniques if fleeing isn't an option or you can't talk your way out of a situation. If you don't have the right mind-set you're going to be put in the hurt locker by some thug or some thug and his buddies. I don't think this book is the last word on self-defence nor do I agree with the author on every point - but it is worth the money. I enjoyed reading this book and I believe you will as well.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: What's up with the bad reviews??? Review: It would appear that a certain disgruntled individual did wrongfully post two negative reviews of this fine book without good cause. His false comments were obviously motivated by factors other than the content of this book. Perhaps he was in disagreement with various postings at the Righteous Warrior Temple website, which endorses "Hardcore Self Defense" by C. R. Jahn? Or maybe he was upset that a negative review of one of his favorite books recommended "Hardcore Self Defense" as an alternative? Regardless, "Hardcore Self Defense" is considered by many to be the definitive work on the subject, and the material speaks for itself. This individual made several false comments in his pair of "2 star" reviews. He claims that this book is nothing more than a "cut and paste special" derived from other, and better, works. Anyone who has actually read "Hardcore Self Defense" knows this to be a lie. Nothing else like "Hardcore Self Defense" is available to the public at this time, and the entirety of this work is original material. He also states that it is "too martial arty" and "goes over the head" of the average reader. This is also untrue. While this book can be read and enjoyed by novice, intermediate, and advanced martial artists alike, it was written to be understood and appreciated by persons with no martial arts experience whatsoever, and terminology & techniques specific to the classical martial arts was deliberately excluded from the text. He finally states that mental preparedness cannot be learned from a book, and that this book will instill "false belief" in readers that they can better overcome adversity. It is true that the mere act of reading a book -- any book -- will not magically transform you into a more skilled and capable individual overnight; however, the knowledge contained within "Hardcore Self Defense," when properly applied, will go a long way towards promoting your personal transformation. Knowledge is Power, and the chapter on mental preparedness through visualization and self-hypnosis goes way above and beyond anything else you could find in any other book which covers combat psychology. This book is jam-packed with useful information -- much of which has never adequately been addressed elsewhere -- and it has received our highest recommendation. It is well worth the small sum of $14.95

Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Not worth the purchase Review: There's not much meat here, and certainly no techniques or pictures of any techniques. if you need a book to tell you to inflict as much damage as possible, you'll find that in dozens of other books. The section about using a belt as a weapon is somewhat useful. Other than that, this is not a very helpful book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: HARD TO THE CORE Review: This book gives some of the best advice on mental preparation, unarmed combat, knifefighting, gunfighting, and improvised weaponry I have ever seen in any format. This is no theoretical fantasy written by some "armchair commando," but a collection of practical and realistic tactics written by someone who obviously has been there and knows what he's talking about. I do not understand what would motivate certain anonymous reviewers -- who obviously have not read this book, but might've glanced at the online excerpts -- to spout such ignorance. I would not be at all surprised to find that "ladyastral" was really a 40 year old man with a poor self-image and an alcohol problem! Do not write insulting 1-star reviews for books you have not read . . . there are far more productive ways to utilize your spare time. This was a great book, and giving it 1-star makes it very clear where your head is at. To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing similar to "Hardcore Self-Defense" being offered anywhere else for any price, and the information it provides will prove invaluable if you ever find yourself in a really bad situation. Admittedly, it doesn't provide pages of photos and diagrams for folks to gawk at, and it surely was never intended to have "mass market appeal," but it clearly does what it was intended to do -- transmit a large amount of very specific information about what works best and why. This book may not be suitable for the average citizen who thinks that the simple act of reading a "self defense" book will make them immune to muggers, but those who actually are in harms way on a day to day basis will get a lot out of it. Unfortunately, too many self-proclaimed "experts" have flooded the bookstores with far too many fantasy-based systems that consistantly fail to perform as advertised. There are less than a dozen really good practical self defense manuals out there, and this is one of the best.
