Rating: Summary: This is NOT a great book, but it is a good book. Review: I am an intermediate bodybuilder and have read Bodybuilding 101 by Robert Wolff. It is a good general review and offers helpful recommendations. It lacks a specifc anatomical chart identifing muscles and muscle groups, which I would find helpful during training. Additionally some (many) exercises are described narratively but lack "how to" photos or diagrams. I found myself trying new routines and wondering if I was doing the excerise correctly. It is comprehensive, easy to read and motivational. More explict information and advice on how to do every exercise correctly and a basic anatomical chart would have been useful. Thank you.
Rating: Summary: A MUST HAVE! Review: I am currently following the Body for Life Program. The program is great but I needed more information. Body building 101 provided me with so much more information! Not just the "how's" but the "whys". Had it not been for this book I'm sure I would have ultimately given up my program for lack of knowledge and understanding. Anyone who is new to body building, this book is a must have!
Rating: Summary: Even helps those of us past 40! Review: I don't know what happens, but my body changed when I hit my mid-40's. I've bought the Total Gym, Body By Jake and Larry North products and while they are good at some things, they don't give you all the answers. For me, Bodybuilding 101, by Robert Wolff, Ph.D., does. I'm very critical about these kinds of books since so many of them proclaim they know all the answers to your problems. Why is it that all these products and people you see late at night keep telling us the abs are the key to a long happy, healthy life? Yeah, right. Here's what I really enjoy about this book; it doesn't pretend to be something that it's not. Meaning, it's not a fad diet or exercise book. The exercises, workouts and advice are the results of what Robert Wolff says have worked for people all over the world. And by following his tips I couldn't agree more. My advice is don't buy this book unless you want great results. It'll work for anyone, it really will.
Rating: Summary: Quite good actually Review: I have many articles written by Bob Wolff that I've cut out and saved over the years, as I always enjoyed trying something new and different he'd so often recommend. I particularly enjoyed what he had to say about mental training. His methods work well and have helped me realise quite good progress in the areas of training and nutrition. No book will ever take the place of discipline and hard work, but I can unquestionably say if you follow Wolff's advise, you cannot help but get excellent results.
Rating: Summary: Finally, someone gives us the stuff that works with no bs Review: I haven't seen Robert Wolff's columns in Muscle & Fitness in awhile and wondered what happened to him? Now I know. He was busy writing this book. If you've never read his Bodybuilding 101 column and all his other stuff, you missed out big time because he is a guy that tells it like it is without the hype and bs that you see in so many other magazines. The big thing anyone will get from this book is that Robert Wolff gives you only the stuff that works, and he hits on something the other's don't and he calls it the nuances of what it takes to turn a good exercise into a great one. Lots of great pictures show you what he's talking about. I like the fact that he gives the little known secrets that will save you incredible amounts of wasted time trying to find something that will change your body. It's kinda like, if you want to get from where you are to where you want to go, here's the plan, just follow it. Really easy and very effective. This guy knows his stuff big time and you'll immediately know that once you open the book. And check out what Rachel McLish, Lee Haney, Cory Everson, Steve Reeves, Joe Weider and Ben Weider say about him. You'll be impressed. All I can say is, get this book and you'll really be impressed. Five BIG stars from me!
Rating: Summary: This book is terrible Review: I honestly have no idea how this book is getting the glowing 5-star comments of other reviews. I'm interested in getting started in bodybuilding at home -- I have a set of free weights and was looking for recommended excercises, how to do them, etc. Based on the glowing recommendations of this book, I got it. It's just terrible. It gives a little bit of weight lifting advice: a list of recommended exercises, with NO DESCRIPTION of what they are. For example, it says to to do a "donkey calf raise" but doesn't describe it. It does have advice like (literally) "don't spit in the drinking fountain at the gym." I didn't need that particular bit. It's very repetitive in the little bit of advice it does give -- it says to eat lots of skinless chicken breasts in about 5 different places. I don't know who would find this book useful. Maybe if you're really into lifting, and want a psych book to help along, you could find it useful. In any case, it is absolutely useless for beginners.
Rating: Summary: The best book to get Review: I love this book like crazy. I have bought alot of book on bodybuilding and they all seem kind to tricky. I mean they are not as clear as they suppose to be to a beginner. This is the best book I ever found. Take my words for it, if u cares, it is the best book around.
Rating: Summary: It Changed My Life Review: I never believed a book could do it, but this one has. I've had such a problem with my weight all my life and have tried everything and each time nothing would work. I must have kept these book stores in business with all the diet, exercise, aerobic books I've bought. Not anymore. This book gave me a very easy to understand plan on how to get the best exercise and diet results. Much different from all the others and believe me I should know since I've bought their books. But the thing that changed my life wasn't the workouts or nutrition information. It was Robert Wolff's words of motivation that somehow caused a change inside of me to think differently about myself and my body. It's hard to find words to explain what I mean, but all I can say is that his words and this book was just the thing I needed to change my life in the right direction. Thank you very much.
Rating: Summary: A REALLY EXCELLENT BOOK! Review: I picked up the book at Barnes & Noble and liked the cover and all the back cover words and recommendations from people like Rachel McLish and Cory Everson, whom I've admired over the years. So I decided to buy it. As I got into the book, I really liked the motivational style of the author, Robert Wolff. For years I've paged through these kinds of books and there was always something missing...like a clear, concise and easy-to-follow plan that would explain to a woman like me, what I needed to know to get in great shape and look great. Finding lots of information was never a problem. Finding a book that actually motivated me and made me want to actually do something was. This book did that. The thing I like about it, is unlike so many others, Robert Wolff knows what he's talking about and has the credentials to prove it. He's someone who's worked with the top names in fitness and bodybuilding and it seems, learned their "secrets" or "tricks" and then took that knowledge and made it simple and easy to use for the average man and woman who doesn't have the time or inclination to live at the gym or workout for hours. The result is a book filled with the things you need to know to look and feel your best. I've had the book since the beginning of May and the changes that my body is going through is amazing. I have more energy, my legs, glutes and abs are getting tighter and firmer, I'm sleeping better and so much of the stress I had before, from my job and raising a family, is now at a point where I don't even hardly notice it. My whole body just looks and feels so much better. This is the first kind of review I've ever done for a book and I wouldn't be doing it unless I believed in this book and the inspirational message of Robert Wolff. He's made a believer out of me. He'll make one out of you too.
Rating: Summary: Helpful and clear Review: I read Robert Wolff's columns in Muscle & Fitness magazine, and loved them. So I was happy to see this book prominently displayed in our local Barnes & Noble. This book offers a tremendously clear program for beginning and intermediate bodybuilding. And the photos are very helpful, too.
