Rating: Summary: Essential Reading for intermediate and Advanced Riders Review: This is one of the best books I've read. The descriptions of aids and exercises are clearly explained and often accompanied by discussions on when horse and rider are ready to begin a certain exercise or level of training and some of the problems that may be experienced. I particularly enjoy Colonel Podhajsky's empathy and feeling for the horse and that he sees this as a large part of his success. If you enjoy this book you may also enjoy 'My Horses, My teachers' - although it is more autobiographical, it too covers many interesting riding subjects, including much of Alois' own learning experiences, something you don't often get from other riders!
Rating: Summary: All the Missing Pieces Review: While reading this book it occured to me that of all the years I have spent with horses and all the trainers I have watched work, none have ever been as thorough or "filled in all the holes" with the basics as Podhajsky. Only when one truly understands the "basics" of horsemanship can they teach it to the horse no matter what discipline of riding they do. This book is a benefit to anyone who wants to develop their relationship with their horse!
