Summary: English III review
Review: Whether you love or hate Ty Cobb, you will love this book. It tells the whole Cobb story, from his humble beginnings to his ... last days. I am a lifelong baseball fan but learned a great deal of new information about Cobb. Stump confirms that Cobb was possibly the greatest and definitely the nastiest ballplayer of them all. Even if you are not a huge baseball fan, you will be entertained and amazed by one Cobb anecdote after another. Cobb truly changed the game. From its opening inscription ("To get along with me," Cobb told Stump, "don't increase my tension"), which basically describes Cobb's horrific personality. Nothing would get in his way when he wanted something, no matter what the circumstances were. Cobb, as a player of the game, holds many outstanding records in the hall of fame today. His most remarkable--and untouchable--feats were hitting over .300 for 23 consecutive seasons and having a .367 lifetime batting average. This is near impossible today because the average professional baseball career only last hardly 10 years. No body liked him, but he was better than everyone else of his day, or any day, for that matter. Cobb is clearly one of the most unique individuals in all of U.S. History and Al Stump magnificently retells the life and events of the greatest baseball player of all time.
