Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A must have for any serious Karate Ka. Review: An excellent book from a historical point of view as well as on techniques. Breaks down Seiuchin kata and leaves room on every page for notes and highlighting. Mr. Martinez does an excellent job in presenting us a new, different and refreshing view of this kata. I enjoyed it immensely. Generally speaking, I have found Isshinryu books to be of pretty limited use, but Sensei Martinez's books are a rare and much appreciated exception. As the author makes clear, this is not a book for the beginner, but anyone who practices Isshinryu karate should have this in their library. What makes this book different is its in-depth treatment of the technical aspects of Seiuchin. What we have here is someone who has obviously put some serious thought into the technical aspects of karate and how they are linked together, and then put forward a detailed exposition of his findings. While I think five star reviews are given all too frequently in these reviews, this book actually deserves it. On the whole this is an excellent book and a must have for any serious Karate Ka. I have recommended it to all of my students and friends.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: IsshinryuSeiunchin Kata: Secrets Revealed Review: As an Isshinryu practitioner since 1967, I am pleased that my style is finally being written about. This book on Seiunchin Kata, along with its companion books on Chinto, Kusanku and Naihanchi, is well written and researched, is concise and easy to follow. I found that Martinez Sensei's approach to the bunkai (analysis) is well grounded and makes a lot of sense---something that is rare in most karate manuals. He shows what his particular bunkai is and then how to do it effectively.I hope he plans to continue with the other four kata.
