Summary: Hogan the Hero!
Review: If ever an athlete was an inspiration to others it had to be the
tough little Texan, William Ben Hogan. Hogan's persistence in overcoming a near tragic auto accident and having to endure pain almost daily to become the greatest and most respected athlete of his time makes the prima donna athlete of today almost a joke. Ben hit balls till his hands bled, so they say. He dreamed of being the best and, most importantly, he worked at it. Hogan was the real "Tiger" of golf and will always be remembered and missed by those who admire dedication and courage in the face of tremendous odds. He is an example to all to find what you love and work at it. Sampson's book is great and should be read by all who love golf or who simply admire courage.

Summary: Motivating and inspiring!
Review: If you like golf you'll love this book. If you enjoy reading about the singularly focused personal pursuit of excellence, you'll also love this book. I was motivated to not only work on my golf game but to focus on excellence in other areas of my life. Despite early frustrations with the game and his professional career he didn't quit. Despite a monumental physical setback during the early days of his growing success he didn't quit - he became better. The most revealing aspect of Hogan's character was the rigourous, continual pursuit of excellence he sought even after achieving professional success beyond his dreams - he never quit trying to achieve success as defined by himself instead of those around him. What a lesson!

Summary: A great book for the lazy golfer, who needs to work at golf.
Review: In Curt Sampson's biography of Ben Hogan, he tells the true story of a young caddie who becomes the world's best golfer. Curt Sampson seems to be telling the reader that through hard work you can achieve your goal. Mr. Sampson wrote this book to show the good, bad, and the ugly sides of Ben Hogan's life. Curt Sampson is right on with his characterization of Hogan. Hogan is tough as nails and this is truly portrayed throughout the book. This book could help the average golfer, learn how to work at their game "until his hands bled." HOGAN will always be of great importance to the reader, because it shows the trials and tribulations of the poor boy who makes it big. Anyone who wants to see a person who earned their living and survived through the tough times, should read HOGAN by Curt Sampson.

Summary: HOGAN
Review: In my very large golf library this is clearly the best book on golf
I have read period. For the first time you get an insight into the "wie ice mon" in what reads like a novel.

Summary: Informative but lacking in humor!
Review: Lacks stories of Hogan's follies

Summary: Down The Middle
Review: No one knew Ben Hogan, but everyone seemed to revere him. Why? At face value, it's hard to understand because the man was aloof, arrogant - and, often, rude. Nevertheless, golf fans and most of his fellow professionals worshiped the turf he walked on. No writer has done a better job of capturing the Hogan mystique than Curt Sampson does in this fine biography, which is neither critical nor lavish with praise. It's an objective, smoothly written and compelling account of a complex man whose intensity and dedication were unprecedented.

Summary: A mystery to many, a hero to some, and a golfing legend
Review: Now available in an updated edition which has expanded to include a brand new chapter, Hogan is a very highly recommended biography of Ben Hogan, one of the greatest professional golfers in history. Ben was a man known to practice until his hands bled, and who deliberately used equipment without logos despite the wealth he could have gained by contracting such de facto advertising deals with corporations. Ben has been a mystery to many, a hero to some, and a golfing legend to be remembered for generations to come. Hogan is very highly recommended and inspiring reading for professional golf enthusiasts in general, and nostalgic Ben Hogan fans in particular.

Summary: Motivational biography for golfers
Review: One of my all time favorite golf reads of one of golfing most mysterious champions. I was so moved to read this after hearing of Steve Jones' reading of it on his way to victory at Oakland Hills. One realizes from the outset that Hogan came from a background which caused him to work hard and likely be aloof from public attention. Driven might be the word to describe him. Excellently written to be read and re-read.

Summary: Very Inspiring
Review: Reading this book makes me want to get out an play golf. His perseverence alone makes me want to get out and accomplish myself. The only thing that bothered me about this book was that it seemed to jump around a little. Other than that, it is definitely a must read!

Summary: An excellent walk-through of Ben Hogan's life!
Review: The best book iv'e every read. I think every golf lover should have a chance to read this masterpiece! It explains, with help from Curt Sampson how Ben Hogan really lived his life, rather than every shoe brand he bought!. It (the book) desribes Ben's meaning, hope and explanation of his true identity in the world of golf.
