Tony Hawk has been my idol since I was nine years old. I remember when I saw him land the 900, I was nearly crying! So when his book came out, I may have been the first to reserve a copy. And the last to review it. I have read the book three times now, and the review should be easy. This book is good for anybody who likes true storys with good morals like never give up. That is really what this story is about. It reminds me so much of the movie "Rudy" because they have so much in common. But Tony had a little more support than Rudy did and he got a little more of a reward. Tony always wanted to be a skater, Rudy always wanted to football player. Rudy was to short, Tony was too thin and they both got told that. Rudy didn't have the grades to get into a college, and skateboarding was about as popular as being a professonal frisbee thrower (that was a line from the book) and the punk era was "out." But in the end, they both come out good. Rudy does QB tackle, and Tony becomes a multi-millionare. So they are very similar, but Tony had a little more support because his dad was about his biggest supporter, Rudy's dad didn't do jack-diddely-squat to help. And after reading the book, one can only hope for a movie...

ESPN had just begun broadcasting the sport and along with Christian Hosoi and Mike McGill was a storklike young man, Tony Hawk. My kids watched for a minute, but I was captivated. Cut to 1999, and a much more mature Hawk has just completed the 900, the Holy Grail of skateboard tricks...in front of a crowd of over 20,000. Of all the early stars of the sport, he is one of the few, if not the only to have continued to compete. This is his story. How a young, hyperenergetic child was able to catch the beginning of a sport and ride it through the many ups and downs, until retiring on his own terms. This is also a great look into the life of a California boy in the 70's and 80's, supported by parents who indulged and supported his growing passion. You meet a unforgettable cast of fellow skaters, get a bird's eye view of the evolution of skateboarding as a sport, and revenue maker. Written in a scattered style of conversation with friends, this is full of stories and photos and bits of background that will delight the skateboard fan.

What kind of skateboarder has a book about himself. Have you seen the commercials he has been in. I mean tarzan, come on! Also a game about himself all because he landed a stupid trick once or twice( a 900).Sure I could see a book about a person who invented electricity, or discovered something that changed the world. I just don`t like TONY HAWK!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Skateboarders Bible Review: Tony Hawk is, (emphasis on the 'is') the greatest skater that has ever lived. No person could ever acheive what he has in Skateboarding and this book prooves my point. He has invented hundreds of tricks and is still the only person to have pulled off the 900 not mentioning the fact that he and his father have literally made skateboarding what it is today across the globe. The book is a skateboarders bible. The book affacted me a great deal and in a way it has changed my attitude towards skating and even life itself to some extent. Favourite Part of the Book has to be his tour with Birdhouse and the making of The End video. Even those of you out there who dont posess a skateboard will find it easy to appreciate this fantastic autobiography.
