If their parents are encouraging their kids to read, then they could buy this for them if they like skateboarding. It tells about his life and how he started. They book is very good to read and is fun. There are many chapters, but many places to pause between chapters. This book also has great pictures in it.

Review: I've spent 27 years riding a skateboard and have seen the "sport" come and go. One person who has remained solid through the ups and downs is Tony Hawk. Tony's book gives you an inside look at what skating and being a pro skater is all about. It's an easy read that explains skateboarding in terms that a non-skaters can relate to and understand, as does another favorite book of mine: "It's not about the Bike", by Lance Armstrong. As with Armstrong's book about cancer and the world of pro cycling, you don't have to be a cyclist to see where the man's coming from, and the same goes for Tony's book about skating. You know, I hear way too much about kids not having role models, I just mentioned two REAL role models. Read Hawks book! Read Armstrong's book! Skate tough or go home!

Review: I picked up this book on the offhand chance it would tell me for sure or not if Tony was in Gleaming The Cube, a skate movie with Christian Slater (I had a bet with my wife). Anyways, I ended up reading the whole thing cover to cover. I didn't know how interesting his life really was. Tony is his own worst critic though. Never was dry or dull reading. Great book.

I read this book and it's great. It tells everything about Tony's life. I can't wait til his other two books come out BETWEEN BOARDSLIDES AND BURNOUT and TONY HAWK. I'm sure they'll be just as cool.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: My inspiration to continue skating Review: Most biographies [are not good], unless you're actually interested in the person the biography is on. At age 13, I started skating. Tony Hawk was my idol. I had over 50 pictures of him, torn out of skate mags, plastered on my bedroom wall. When I wore down the tail on my Big Time Hawk (it measured about 3 1/2 inches at the end of its life) I took drywall screws, and screwed it to the wall of Hawk (my mother was NOT happy). That wall stayed the same until my mom sold her house about 2 years ago. At age 21, I thought I didn't have the time to skate anymore. I had gotten married, bought a house, and my son was on the way in about eight months. I guess I thought it was time to grow up. Now, at age 28 (Tony's got 6 years on me), I'm finding myself at the local skatepark at least twice a week. I bring my son (now almost seven) with me on early sunday morning sessions, because no one else is there. It's our private little skate session. Thanks Tony, for opening my eyes again to skateboarding. Tony made me realize I'm not too old to do something that I loved so much.

I had heard about it from my sister's fiance who is a skater and said it was a very good book. Was he ever right. It normally takes me weeks to finish a book but I finished this in a record, 5 days. It was a great book with funny stories and a lot of insight as to what and who Tony Hawk is. I would recomend this to skaters and non-skater a like. And kids, if you need to do a book report, here is a great selection. Two thumbs way up!
