Summary: Good Reference Material
Review: As a basic introductory of arnis, the book makes a good reference material. As a student myself of arnis, under DLSU Arkado-Arnis Association, I noticed some similarity and dissimilarity in the techniques being shown. Perhaps it could be said that each organization of arnis has a unique way of presenting the art.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent Introduction
Review: As a long time student of the Filipino martial arts, I have seen many books on the subject, and this is a must have. This book is an introduction to the art of Modern Arnis written by the man who spread the art around the world. "Modern Arnis : Filipino Art of Stick Fighting" is great for beginners or as a reference for those more advanced. Many basic exercises are photographed step by step and are easy to follow. The instructions are very clear and the pictorials are well done. Anyone interested in stick fighting should own this book!

Summary: a bad book on the Filipino martial arts
Review: From the title this book has problems. First, Arnis is much more than "stick fighting." The complete art, unlike this book, includes a variety of empty hand and different weapon techniques. Secondly, the art, unlike this book, emphasizes movement and flowing techniques done rapidly in a chain like series. In short, this book is probably the worst on the market and it's description of the Filipino martial arts is very distorted. Try any of the other books on the market instead.

Summary: Excellent Introduction
Review: I disagree with anyone that says this book is not a good one. I am an arnis instructor with the IPMAF, and Remy's book is exactly what many lucid readers have deduced: an introduction to a great martial art. Also, keep in mind that for years, the art of arnis was considered, even by some of its own practitioners, a "stick-fighting" art. It wasn't until Ernesto Presas and his brother Remy developed this into a more comprehensive art.

In closing, this book is a good, fundamental book upon which one may make a somewhat educated decision on whether or not they would like to further pursue the art.

Summary: Not a bad book
Review: I had studied Arnis long ago and after many years could not remember the fundamentals. Remy Presas book is a great introduction to the Art of Arnis and really helped me remember what I had lost. His book covers stances, swings, defenses and even has some pratical drills that will help with coordination.
I highly suggest this book for the beginner of just as a review. It is a great reference.

Summary: A Great Book on Arnis by the Master of Arnis
Review: This Book is an excellent learning resource for the beginning arnisadore. Remy Presas is among the highest authority in arnis today. The book's presentation is excellent. I especially liked the easy to follow diagrams of drills. This book was my first exposure to arnis, and I recommend it to anyone just starting in arnis.
