Summary: Roger was from Fargo, North Dakota
Review: A good book with a great story. The Book Description needs to at least get Roger's home town right. The folks in North Dakota don't get much attention, but when one of their boys grows up in Fargo to be a talent like Roger Maris, it deserves to be remembered as something other than just fly over country. Let's at least give North Dakota the credit it's due.

Summary: 61* movie
Review: I've never been a big fan of baseball myself but after watching the movie and reading this book I love it. Even though I was born 20 years later I feel like I was there, I wish I was there.

Summary: Wish I was there....
Review: In the movie that billy Crystal directed, I WAS there. It was amazing! I have never been a big fan of baseball but after reading/watching 61*, I am hooked.

I'm saddened that I was not of age then to have known of Mickey and Roger. I think they would have left a big impression on me as a kid. The players now seem more interested in money, women, and living the high life. I am grateful to have been brought up in an era of real heros.

I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in baseball or simply a good human interest story. I'll look forward the the DVD version of the movie 61*.

Review: Like I did, you will love this book. It is a great companion piece to the movie.

Most of the book is full of pictures and narratives about the great 1961 season when Mantle and Maris were chasing the Babe's home run record. (Aside, Maris' 61 home runs, which stood for 37 years, is now only 7th best all time?). There are lots of pics of the real Mantle and Maris as well as a discussion of the movie. And of course, there is the postscript of M and M after their Yankee careers ended. And sadly for both, very early and untimely deaths.

M and M were the talk of baseball and New York in 1961. Forty years later as we watch their descendants try to bring New York together with another World Series crown we can remember the innocence the joy and heartbreak of 61 and we can thank Billy Crystal for helping us to relive the innocence that was our youth.

Summary: The Magic Of Baseball
Review: The Sporting News is untouchable when it comes to baseball. 61* chronicles the Maris/Mantle season like no other. The combination of superb photographs and exceptional editorial makes this book a must have for anyone who appreciates baseball and its history. Whether you are a Yankees fan or not this book brings to life a spectacular season. The power and emotion that captured America jumps off the pages through old time photographs, cartoons, and newspaper clippings from the archives of The Sporting News. I was not alive in 1961 however through the eyes of The Sporting News I feel like I was there. I highly recommend this extroadinary book.

Review: This is the way sports should be! Two men, who gave it their all
for their team. It was more for the sport and not the money!
Great book!
