Rating: Summary: The" REAL" golfswing secret (s) revealed!!!! Review: I have golfed for over 20 years, taken many lessons, pounded gazillions of balls, and have read over a hundred golf books, as well as, subscribing to a number of golf magazines. This simply written book without illustrations or pictures to confuse the message has solved my chronic over the top, inaccurate and inconsistent swing. WOW!!! Finally someone is not afraid to reveal how simple the golf swing "is". I keep this little book next to the "throne" for an often reread. Even though I do not know Cec McFarlane I tip my hat to and thank him for a significant contribution to the game of golf.
Rating: Summary: Not a hit - Throw it away Review: Normally, I don't go to the trouble to write a review, positive or negative. This book so disappointed me that I would not wish it upon another.
It is the only volume written for adults I have ever seen that is printed entirely in upper case letters and double spaced.
THIS IS CONSIDERED IMPOLITE IN SOME CIRCLES SINCE IT MAY BE THE
EQUIVALENT OF SHOUTING.
It also tends to make the book difficult to read smoothly since the periods are so small its hard to tell where one sentence begins and the previous ends. The language is substandard, showing little or no effort was made to edit. It resembles a self-published effort. It is said a picture is worth a thousand words. Not a single illustration is included. Here is ONE sentence from the Alignment chapter:
THINK OF THE PROVERBIAL RAILWAY TRACK SYSTEM, THE BALL AND CLUBFACE ARE ON ONE TRACK GOING IN A STRAIGHT LINE TO THE TARGET, THE GOLF CLUB IS THE TRESTLE AND YOU ARE HOLDING THE END OF IT FURTHEST FROM THE BALL AND CLUB HEAD...GUESS WHAT TRESTLES DO, THEY SUPPORT TWO TRACKS, SO IF THE BALL AND CLUB HEAD ARE ON ONE AND YOU ARE HOLDING THE OPPOSITE END, YOU MUST BE STANDING ON THE PARALLEL TRACK, OR IN A STRAIGHT LINE DIRECTLY BESIDE THE OTHER TRACK.
If the material included were truly unique and usable, one could easily forgive the abuses above. Alas, this is not the case. I found nothing in this volume that is not presented more fully and clearly elsewhere.
The golf instruction world is roughly divided into two camps. On one hand is the "body (or center) controls the generally passive arms and hands" viewpoint; on the other, "arms and hands control the swing while the body supports and responds." This book falls into the latter category. For MUCH clearer explication of this viewpoint consider Manuel de la Torre's "Understanding the Golf Swing" and Ernest Jones'classic "Swing the Clubhead."
Rating: Summary: The" REAL" golfswing secret (s) revealed!!!! Review: This book has a few very good ideas and concepts. Unfortunately, there is also quite a lot of completely incorrect info (like saying you want to hit the ball on the upswing with an iron? Whaaaaaaa?)Stay away - just enough correct to be dangerous No pics, no drawings, and short on supporting detail Do yourself a favor and check out Manual De La Torre's DVD or Martin Hall's 'Golf Myths Exposed' if you can find it, or anything by Alex Morrison
