Rating: Summary: Little book, concise, helpful Review: *****
This is a small, short book. In such a format, it is impossible to cover all of the basics and fundamentals of the golf culture to help a woman feel comfortable her first time on the golf course. That said, this book is a good attempt. If you only have a couple of hours to prepare, and you want to feel as comfortable as possible, I would recommend this book to very new women golfers. It includes a little bit of everything: terminology, culture, etiquette, rules, logistics and practicalities, how to dress, lingo, etc. It also includes some very helpful things that I personally liked: an actual scorecard with the different parts explained, a picture of the different irons, and a chart of hints for "picking up the pace" on the course. It is only 69 pages long so there is only so much that fits, but if you're busy, and you need a CRASH course to get ready, this is your book.

Rating: Summary: The BARE Minimum of information Review: After reading the glowing reviews I thought this book would be an excellent source of information for the beginner. Instead it is incredibly small, over-priced and written almost in outline form. "Feeling Naked..." barely touches on the basics. There are far better books for the female or male beginner that cover this wonderful game in the detail it deserves. Check out "The Complete Idiots Guide to Golf" or "Golf for Dummies" - they are far better choices.
Rating: Summary: They all laughed...at first Review: All my friends at work play golf. I am the only woman, and I wanted to know more about the game without pestering the guys with silly questions. When I saw the great reviews for this book, it sounded like just what the doctor ordered. I learned more in this tiny book in one day of reading than I picked up over years of casual observation. Don't let the pink color put you off. There are tips on etiquette, explainations on things you wouldn't think of as a beginner (I didn't know that the club lengths changed depending on the club's number), and enough background info to get you through a friendly little outing without making a fool of yourself. My best friend at work laughed at me for buying this, but when I showed him the tip about writing down how far your average shot is with each club while practicing at the range, his attitude changed. He read through the book with interest, and said at the end he wished he knew all the information within before he started playing 5 years ago. This book doesn't cover all the information you'll need - there's very little on technique and such - but it will get you off to a good start if you are a complete novice.
Rating: Summary: Avoid embarrassment on the golf course! Review: Although I have played golf casually, I recently joined a golf club and found this book has given me help to 'appear' like I know what I am doing. I have given it to two busy career women friends who are invited to corporate golf tournaments but don't have time to play regularly. They both agree - a good source to help avoid embarrassment and a quick study to understand the etiquette.

Rating: Summary: Great for Clinic Instruction Review: An a member of the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Division I have found this little pink book to be just perfect for beginning students. Thanks, Ann, for making my job easier and for making the fundamentals of getting started easy to understand for new golfers!
Rating: Summary: This book helps to make golf fun! Review: Ann Kelly writes a fun little book that focuses on everything that the new golfer needs to know - what to wear, what to bring, which club to use, rules and tons of useful comments. She also does a great job of reminding the reader that golf is fun and that you are out on the course to enjoy yourself in a beautiful location. I'm sure that there are lots of tips in here for any golfer. And I like the fact that she doesn't take the game too seriously.
Rating: Summary: A brand new world called...golf Review: Ann Kelly's book is the easy introduction to golf all women need. She introduces you to a brand new world...called golf with ease and enthusiasm. While teaching you that nothing goes as planned in the game of golf, Ann gives any reader a sense of where to start and what to expect. Comical and cute, a nice quick read before you hit the links!
Rating: Summary: Finally...something great for beginning women golfers Review: As a golfer, golf instructor and golf coach at the college level, I am truly appreciative of the work that Ann Kelly has put into this excellent book. Finally lady beginner's (we now need a 'blue' book for men) can really find out about the realities and nuances of this great game. This book is long overdue and will certainly lower the stress level and provide valuable encouragement for the lady beginner. I will be using this book in my College freshman classes and would encourage others including junior and senior high school Physical Education teachers to latch onto this book. It would certainly make a great gift and may create a solution for the beginning golfer in your life...a solution that will lower your stress level as well. Again, an excellent book and kudos to Ann Kelly for such a realistic presentation. I'm sure thousands of beginner's will echo this sentiment.
Rating: Summary: Dolores Nickerson, new golfer Review: As a new golfer, I found this to be an excellent guide to the terminology of the game as well as the practical basics ( e.g. where to stand when a playing partner is hitting their shot ). Reading this material in simple language, and with illustrations, was much better than trying to learn these things on the course with people who take them for granted. This book gave me the confidence to only worry about hitting the ball when I play and not worry about embarassing myself in other ways. I have also found it to be a reasonably priced and practical gift for friends, even those who have been playing for a while.
