Summary: Great techniques for great skiing and much more!
Review: A terrific book! It's amazing how Craig can fit so much excellent information into such a small space.

I bought this book, not because of reviews, but because I've met Craig and seen him ski. I can assure you that he is among the most knowledgeable, thoughtful and skillful ski instructors to be found anywhere.

Buy this book, carry it with you on the slopes and try the techniques. Your skiing WILL improve. Better yet, buy it, study it, then contact Craig and sign up for lessons.

If you want to read about these superb, efficient skiing techniques in more detail you should also pick up Harald Harb's "Anyone Can Be An Expert Skier" books as well. (They're awesome and include more info but won't fit in your pocket.)

Summary: On slope pocket guide
Review: Craig has done skiers a favor. Many ask, how do I remember all the movements needed to become an Expert Skier? Now you have it with this great pocket guide. In addition, you have at your finger tips a North American ski resort guide, containing all the important information to compare resorts or make a reservation at a resort. This is truely a skier's dream. Don't leave home without it!!

Summary: Sad
Review: I can't say I've read the whole book for one reason, the advice is horrible. The technique that Mr. McNeil preaches, to keep your feet together, is simply wrong. It's sad that such poor advice is still being published and unknowing beginners are learning bad traits. Keep your feet apart and learn how to ski.

Summary: The Most Comprehensive Ski Pocket Reference
Review: I have had the honor to ski with both Craig and Harald Harb. These guys are the genuine article when it comes to skiing knowledge. Between Craig's experience and Harald's skiing system, this book will get you on the correct path of really enjoying skiing. I cannot stress the importance of being properly prepared for skiing. That includes all aspects: Mentally, Physically, Equipment, and Technique. Any miscalculation on any of these aspects can really dampen an enjoyable experience. Craig sums up what needs to be done for preparation to truly enjoy your skiing experience no matter what your level of skiing. I highly recommend this book for any skier at any level from first timer to experts; you'll never know it all.

Summary: The Most Comprehensive Ski Pocket Reference
Review: Inside Tracks, March, 1999 "Seldom can we recommend something without reservation to every skier, but syndicated ski columnist Craig McNeil's book...is near the top of our short list....This book is among the most complete works on skiing we've yet read and it is certainly the most comprehensive pocket reference ever published. Buy it and keep it in your parka."

Summary: Must-have material for every skier
Review: McNeill has written the most comprehensive book on skiing in years. Black and Blue is all the more amazing as McNeill has crammed a wealth of information on resorts, equipment, technique, snow conditions, first aid, altitude and attitude into a relatively waterproof package about the size of an audio cassette. Black and Blue is certainly the most complete parka-pocket reference ever published. Just buy it!

Summary: Outstanding Pocket-Sized Skiing Manual!
Review: This is a great little book that includes information on everything from equipment maintenance to Harald Harb's revolutionary new Acceleraated Skier Performance teaching system. The back of the book has vital information on every major ski resort in America. A must have for any skiing enthusiast!

Summary: Good but Outdated
Review: While still being sold as new, this book is going on 7 years old. Quantum leaps have been made in equipment technology that are not reflected in the prose--either teaching or equipment. Also, a third of the book is devoted to ski areas, but the information is badly outdated. Most areas have added new runs and modernized lift systems. And rates, well...I skied Breckenridge April 3 for $65 a day. Adult rate is listed at $47 in the book. Booksellers should demand updates.
