Rating: Summary: I'd rather be sailing Review: Along with the majority of the readers here - and I am excluding his family & friends who have pumped up the reviews - I have no idea what this author is talking about. I see that even his own brother didn't give him a 5 star review.

Rating: Summary: Life Experience Review: As a non-rower, I was apprehensive in regards to An Out-of-Boat Experience and the applicability of its contents to my life. As I read the book, however, I was totally charmed by the author's unique writing style. His intimate and humorous recollections immediately drew me into the circle of boating experiences which he shares with his readers. I found An Out-of-Boat Experience to be a work of much greater importance than rowing. It is a book about Life. And the words of discovery and wisdom contained within are as applicable to the sport as they are to the human experience.
Rating: Summary: An Out of Boat Experience Review: As a parent of rowers although a non-rower, I was interested and entertained reading this book. I have listened first-hand to many similar experiences from my daughters and could share with the author's angst, triumphs and joy. An easy read and fun for the rower and rowing enthusiast alike.
Rating: Summary: Ego the size of the planet Review: Don't waste your time. It's all about him, not the sport.
Rating: Summary: What? Review: Fortunatley, I didn't have to buy this book. I am never again trusting the literary judgement of the person who lent it to me.
Rating: Summary: Recommended for the insomniac Review: His search for inner peace put me to sleep right away.
Rating: Summary: All Wet Review: I admit that I didn't read the whole book. I always thought rowing sounded interesting, but I found Mr. Mallory's writing style pedantic and self-absorbed. I couldn't believe he got 3.5 stars in reader reviews, until I realized that his 16 reviews included 3 identical reviews (a multiple-personality reader?) and 5 reviews from family and friends! Even in Florida, we'd ask for a recount!

Rating: Summary: A brotherly perspective Review: I grew up with the author and I can tell you that as he is in real life, his book is quite unique and challenging. Yes, it is a book about rowing with a very intelligent understanding of the physics of power generation (without equations!) but it is an allegory of a man who is still seeking meaning and justification despite a career and a life of coming in second more times than he would have liked. Read about rowing but ponder the complex man who has willingly tied a part of his life to the intense competition on water.
