Summary: my review
Review: After reading Canoe Trip by Dave Curran, I was genuinely glad that I read the book. I initially decided to read it for summer reading at my high school and I know Dr. Curran personally (I have been seeing him for the past three years at school). After reading the first couple chapters, I had gained a new respect for him as a writer; he had clearly and informatively written his passages, in which he show a superior contol of language. He also integrated humor into his writing which made the book more enjoyable to read.
Although I am aware that Dave has a rich vocabulary and is well educted, I was suprised that he integrated excerpts from Thoreau, "Big Two Hearted River," and "To Build a Fire." I have read these in my AP english class and this made it possible to connect with the book on another level.

Summary: canoe Trip review
Review: Canoe Trip by David Curran is an interesting feat of adventure discovered in the Maine wilderness. A one man adventure that is full of surprises along the way. The book shows real life problems that would occur during a canoe trip in the Maine wilderness. These problems would occur only once in a life time, but for this adventurer these problems are common every day problems.

This is an amazing book and would recommend it to anybody who likes adventure stories. The text is so detailed it felt like you were on the trip
yourself. This book will give you the most detailed story of life in the maine wilderness.

Summary: Canoe Trip
Review: Canoe Trip is an exciting novel about David Curran's solo canoe expidition through the Maine wilderness. Along the way, he encounters a few dangers including harsh weather conditions, rough water, moose, and the ever-present mosquito. David likes to do the trip alone because it is easier the plan, and easier to concentrate on his surroundings. These elements combined make for a book that will take you along the ride with him.
You, the reader, will enjoy this book because for many of you, it will hit close to home. It's not like some other adventure stories where it takes place in the Amazon Jungles, or the Himalayian Mountains. No, this book takes place in Maine. This book is also very enjoyable because of its humor. It is laced in many parts of the stories. This is a must read for all of you "adventure junkees".

Summary: Curran is Lost in the Weeds
Review: I recently purchased David Curran's book `Canoe Trip -- Alone in the Maine Wilderness.' I only wish now that I had not put one dollar of my money into Mr. Curran's pocket. He obviously knows or understands very little about the state of Maine or her people. It's a wonder he made it down a river at all. In this book, he propagates tired and inaccurate stereotypes about the people of Maine, sadly displaying his lack of observation, as well as his immature writing abilities. For example, at one point,he talks about bringing tapes with him on his drive through Maine so he doesn't have to listen to Maine radio stations. He calls the tapes ``a thin barrier between my brain and theirs'. Does he actually have the audacity to think that he is intellectually and culturally superior to the people of Maine? What ego! What error! Only someone of low intellect would feel superior to people smart enough to live in the beautiful country that he so eagerly visits from afar.
He also refers to Maine as a place where `drunken lumberjacks marry their sisters'. As a native of Maine and a woman who is not married to her brother, I must object.
Maine is a beautiful state with beautiful people. Mr. Curran has missed out on this, and readers of his book will miss out on that, as well.

Summary: My Response to the Adventure Tale, Canoe Trip
Review: The book, Canoe Trip by David Curran, was an adventurous tale of a man, alone, facing the elements of the North Woods of Maine.
In the book, he tells true life stories of confronting moose, living off the land, and even facing a slight case of hypothermia. I learned a lot from the story. I learned about the authors mental and physical struggles and how, I too, could survive in the insect-infested woods of Maine. His descriptive use of words and comic relief kept me intently reading throughout the book.
I recommend this book to anyone who's planning a trip to Maine or anyone who is looking for a good adventure story. David Curran's tales will keep you intently reading for hours. I hope he comes out with another book as soon as possible.

Summary: Canoe Trip a very well written book.
Review: The book, Canoe Trip, by David Curren, is a book about one man's quest to brave the wilderness. This is an awesome book for those of you who love the outdoors. if you are one who has been on solo missions or even adventures with your friends and want to gain more info on survival, than pickup a copy of this book. Mr. Curren, who works in a public school, is the type of guy, nobdy would expect to travel to Maine and brave the whitewater rapids of a river.

For those of you who dream of making a name for yourself, but don't quite know what to do, read an adventure book such as this and get inspired. Moose, cold, and an unforgiving river, could not stop this man Don't let skeptisizm stop you. If adventure and excitement are what you're into, read this book, reject fear as he did. It is an excellent piece. For those of you who have read it, you know what I mean.
