Summary: Oh, it does not get much better than this
Review: Cook's Run is a short stream in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Professor Fields wants you to know its every mile, and the complexities of each. That discovery is interleaved with a life in mid current: family, dog, and cabin.
One would expect an instructor in American literature to work the language well, and the reader will get just this. "But wait, there's more": extraordinary understanding of the trout of Cook's run, superb vision of the inhabitants and geography of the U.P. Fishermen/fisherwomen & families take note: this is a special piece of work.
