Rating: Summary: The photos only tell part of the story Review: For anyone interested Adirondack history and lore this is a must-read book. What the book lacks in logical organization and strong visuals it makes up for with exceptional information. Fans of small boats and those interested in the Adirondack Guideboat have few places to turn for guideboat information and on that front this book delivers. There are many very useful drawings that show details found few other places. Many pages are devoted to the output of various well-known guideboat builders and this makes for some very interesting reading. The writing style is easy to follow, but the organization is somewhat choppy. What the book really needs is better photography. Many of the photos are from archives from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Rating: Summary: MAN OR WOMAN! Review: i love love love canoes. this book calls them "guide boats" alls i know is that if it has a flat bottom i love it! now i consider my self a "canoeist" if you will. i have extensive boat building experience. this one time, over the summer, in my attic, my boys got loose! gee whizakers! you should have seen the mess they made. they were covered in epoxy by the time i was done with my business up in there. so this is a great read if you want to know every last detail known to man about this one specific boat known to this one specific place. if you don't, well, pick yourself up a copy of "little women" i've never read but it sounds hot!

Rating: Summary: Great book for history buffs and builders alike! Review: What a great book to give the reader a background about the history of the Adirondack. It not only tells you how to build a Guideboat blut it explains why it part was designed the way it was. It is truly a must read for anyone who is interested in Adirondack history, small wooden boats or woodworking. I can not recommend this book any higher.
