Summary: "Highpointing" - a great way to see the United States
Review: Highpoint Adventures, A Pocket Guide to the 50 State Highpoints, is a fun little travel guide packed with useful tips, humor, and perhaps even a little wisdom. If you're looking for a different slant on seeing this beautiful and sometimes off-beat land of ours, try visiting the highest spot in each of the 50 states. Sometimes you'll find yourself well off the beaten track, while other times you'll be in well-known places. In any case, we offer detailed directions to the highpoint, with famous and not-so-famous points of interest nearby.

Whether you are a serious hiker and climber, or prefer to see the sights through the windshield of your car, you can find state highpoints to suite your style.

This pocket-sized book is organized alphabetically by state with over 100 photos, plus driving and hiking maps. It includes safety precautions for hiking, "Leave No Trace" outdoor ethics, First Aid tips, and an illustrated glossary of hiking and climbing terminology.

We hope you enjoy the journey as much as we did! Happy Highpointing!

Summary: A must-have for the library of all serious highpointers !!
Review: I have the Holmes and Zumwalt highpoint guides, and while both are invaluable in their own way (Zumwalt - the topo maps; Holmes - the history and local lore), the Wingers have come up with a guidebook that is small enough to take along on hikes, can fit in the glovebox, has all the latest info on routes etc., and is quaint, with things to do and see while in the area.

3 cheers to Charlie & Diane!

Summary: The Pocket Bible of Highpointing
Review: My wife Chrissy gave me this book as a gift. Since I received it, I am rarely without it. The directions, descriptions, and information provided with regard to the highpoints are excellent. This is my bible to highpointing. The book fits perfectly inside my back pack, and I cannot imagine highpointing without it. My only suggestion for improvement would be the addition of exact latitude/longitude coordinates for each high point.

Summary: The highpoint guidebook you should choose
Review: This handy dandy pocket highpoint book is the best I've seen. I have several highpoint guide books and this is the most accurate. I have climbed 46 highpoints and I am in the process of climbing them again with my family...27 so far. I am using Winger's book on my second climbs. There were times that I noticed I went the wrong way on the first climb, however were very clear with Winger's book. I noticed the directions to the trailheads were very accurate and easy to follow. My kids enjoy reading the little green book...even my 5 year old. There is also so much extra, good to know, information in this book.
It is by far the best guide book for the 50 highpoints that is out there. I highly recommend it...you won't regret it.

Summary: Great book - but get the newer edition
Review: This is a terrific guidebook, but you're missing out on a LOT of updates and additional information by buying this "pocket" edition (the 1st edition published in 1999) instead of the 2nd edition published in 2002. The new version has about twice as many photos, updated maps where things have changed, updates and additional contact information (phone numbers, websites), elevation profile maps, and profiles of people who were some of the "founders" of the hobby of Highpointing (Jack Longacre and Paul Zumwalt).
So do another search for "Highpoint Adventures" and look for the newer version. Or get both (the little one for your backpack and the new one for enjoying a good read & planning your trip).
