Review: "Complete Guide to Sports Nutrition" by Monique Ryan is an excellent book for athletes/exercisers of any level. It provides the reader with solid scientific information, in an easy-to-read format. Monique Ryan is a registered dietitian who specializes in sport nutrition, and is well-qualified to be the author of such a book. She provides the reader with information on planning and consuming a proper training diet that will allow you to exercise at your peak. This is a great book and one that I think should be purchased by any person interested in sport nutrition.

Review: Monique Ryan does a wonderful job at explaining the need for sports nutrition when training for a particular sporting event--triathlon, marathon, etc---or for a moderately active person. The specificity of the content of the book helps one to understand the vitality of an appropriate nutritional combination in order to provide the athlete with optimal energy before, during and after their particular race and/or daily activity. This book assisted me in completing my first triathlon and enabled me to sustain a moderate pace throughout this event. I am confident I would not have been able to complete this event without Ms. Ryan's book and expertise. A great value and learning experience!!!!

Summary: A thorough sports nutrition book for all active individuals.
Review: This 300 page book provides a very thorough review of sports nutrition guidelines for individuals who train at all levels. Whether you are moderately active, cross-training, strength-training, or training for endurance events, the information in this book provides guidelines for the best proportion of fuel for you and your sport. You can develop your own sports nutrition plan based on the volume and intensity of your sport or activity. While you will learn about your carbohydrates, protein, fat, fluid, and vitamins and minerals needs, most importantly, you will learn how to put together a sports diet. A whole section of the book is devoted to creating a diet: meal planning, portions, sample menus, eating out, travelling etc. For more serious exercisers, optimal eating and fluid intake guidelines for before and during exercise and competition is also covered. You will also learn about weight management, building muscle and losing fat, and the latest scientific information on supplements such as creatine, carnitine, and chromium. Some special considerations in the book also include nutrition for pregnancy and exercise and the vegetarian athlete. Persons involved in all sports will benefit from this book, and you should also enjoy the quotes from elite athletes and the great photos.
