Rating: Summary: good book Review: did these reviewers even see this book up close. There are maps of every region, and information on where to get the map of the specific area (since there are more than 400 listings, there isn't space for a detailed map of every individual waterway). And that's YUBA, as in the YUBA river in Sacramento Valley, not Yuma, AZ. Again, read books carefully before reviewing.

Rating: Summary: Quite Comprehensive for California Review: I didn't read the book. However, I can tell you that Yuma is in Arizona, not California. Describing a "California" book as including "Yuma to the Southeast" is an inconsistency that is unfortunate when it is supposed to give you directions. "Look kids, 'Big Ben.'" I'm sure this is a very fine book. I just find inconsistencies a bit disconcerting. I still plan to buy this book. Just thought you should know.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful resource Review: I've used this book to research and plan a number of trips. Overall it's an absolutely wonderful resource - an exhaustive list of California waterways, detailed narratives about each place, descriptions of amenities, what is allowed and isn't allowed (powerboats, jet skis, etc), good directions, and so on. I've recommended it to a number of friends and have had nothing but positive feedback. If you're looking for a good reference book on California's lakes and rivers, have no fear, this is your book.
Rating: Summary: HUNDREDS OF SECRET LAKES -- PLUS 600 BOAT RAMPS Review: Think there's no place left to go? That's what I thought until I started exploring every part of California in great detail, in the process finding hundreds of secret lakes. In fact, I found 190 lakes that you can reach by car that do not have boat ramps, that is, perfect for canoes, rafts, prams, picnics and camping. Now get this: I also found 600 boat ramps! But that was just a start. This book details every lake, river, bay and coastal access, more than 400 listings, and the water sports popular at each. This includes 132 lakes for water skiing, 282 lakes for swimming, 196 lakes and coastal areas for windsurfing, and 126 lakes for personal watercraft. In addition, all of California's 45 premium rafting rivers are listed, including the rafting companies that run guided trips on 25 of these. It is the only guidebook of its kind. Each spot is rated on a scale of 1 to 10, with boating rules, speed limits and safety zones described in detail to make your trip safe and as fun as possible -- and to make sure you end up at the kind of place you've dreamed of. As an added bonus, we secured permission to reprint the "ABCs of California Boating Law," a must-read for every boat owner in the state. Beyond the scope of the sheer magnitude of what is available, I discovered a much more important lesson in putting this book together: For anybody who desires adventure, excitement, fun and a chance at true freedom, the fastest way to get it is with a boat. In a boat, there is nothing but open space, often for miles . . . no stoplights, no traffic jams . . . and in the outdoors, I have learned firsthand that heading out in a boat is the fastest and easiest way to put a giant smile on your face. See you out there!
Rating: Summary: Lame Duck Review: This is not a good book. Not very detailed and no maps. Lots of words but no information that helps.
