Rating: Summary: The Bible of U.S. Sailors during the mid-19th-century Review: If you were a American young lad trying to learn the ropes on a sailing ship during the middle of the 19th-century, then you would want to have a copy of William Brady's "The Kedge-Anchor, or Young Sailors' Assistant." This book was the Bible of U.S. sailors and provided simple, direct instructions on how to do everything that needed to be done on a sailing ship such as knotting and rigging, blacking the guns, and stationing the crew in various emergency situations. "The Kedge-Anchor" includes 70 rare engravings, a glossary of sea terms, and 100 pages of tables. This is one of several books about practical seamanship from the last great era of sailing ships, such as "The Art of Rigging" by Captain George Biddlecombe.
