Rating: Summary: A bugle blast to grab the gear! Review: A comprehensive diving course--but you won't be dozing through this class, I ga-ron-tee! Here's an ode to the sport. Here's a bugle blast to grab the gear and head for the water. By page five you're panting to suit up. Many dive books educate. This one also ROCKS!! Humberto Fontova
Rating: Summary: Let's go diving! Review: At last, a practical SCUBA how-to book that makes sense to the average diver (particularly female divers) and is fun to read. A real confidence builder. Coleman thoroughly reviews the important basics as well as includes information from real life experiences that can change a so-so dive into a wow! dive. It's like sitting poolside with an experienced dive guru and having every dive-related question you can think of answered in simplistic and understandable terms. Although this book is geared toward the certified diver, I believe anyone considering a sport diving certification should also read it in order to gain a realistic understanding of the dive adventures that await her. I'm compelled to load up the dive gear, grab my dive buddy by the hair (if only he had some) and drag him to the nearest body of water.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: Being a newly certified diver, I had the question "Now what?" This book is like having an experienced diver as a constant friend who never tires of giving advice (and sharing some great anecdotes!) I highly recommend it.

Rating: Summary: certification class--the practical stuff Review: I have been a certified diver for over a year before I read this book. I had even purchased all my own gear in that amount of time. I wish that I had read this book immediately after my scuba class because I felt the information was valuable in selecting equipment as well as discussing dive trips. This is the stuff that they don't teach you in class. The author's style makes it an easy read for any diver. Plus, he is even willing to laugh at himself from time to time. I am going to have my son read it next.
Rating: Summary: Read and learn to get the most out of your C-card Review: Learn to maximize those diving skills you were taught and truly make your diving adventures what they should be; safe and fun. Clay Coleman has put together his experience, skills, and plenty of helpful hints that go far beyond what you can ever learn in a dive course. Be ahead of the pack while developing your skills and planning your dive adventures. This book is a must for new divers as well as experienced divers.
Rating: Summary: Oustandingly valuable information for new divers Review: Scuba diving is a sport of details. Due to its tendency to be equipment-intensive and carried out around the world in vastly varying conditions, the number of things that must be taken into consideration is ample even for a simple dive. Making the right decisions on gear THE FIRST TIME can save a diver thousands of dollars, and this is exactly the kind of book that will help a consumer make those educated decisions.
Rating: Summary: Please tell the newbies to use this book! Review: Students get Certified everyday without really knowing how to dive, much less dive safely. Some become multi-card newbies, collecting more Certifications without learning much more, but most simply drop out when they realize they don't know what they're doing, what to shop for, where to go, and so forth. SCUBA diving would be much safer and more fun for all involved if more newbies would spend so little to learn so very much, and - it's a fun read.
Rating: Summary: Your "other" dive buddy. Review: This diver's handbook is truly another buddy and maybe your best one. It's packed with information and wisdom it would take many years and dives to learn all condensed and categorized while written in a relaxed and friendly manner. Who doesn't want to learn from that salty, experienced diver you come across on your adventures in diving? Here are all those questions answered and some you would not have thought of asking. Not a book to read and pass on but to be kept as a quick reference. SAFE diving!
