Review: By profession I am an Electrical Engineer with an avocation of hiking and exploring. I followed GPS developments for years through technical papers wondering if someday its power would be available to the common person. When the day arrived that I could afford my first receiver, I found that there was little material that related the technical aspects of GPS to my adventures in the field. I determined to learn everything I could about GPS navigation and GPS Made Easy is the result. The book provides step-by-step guidance for using your GPS receiver in real-life outdoor pursuits.

Review: Can't you people do anything without a gadget? Why don't you just learn to use a topo properly? With a compass for real fine-tuning? Or maybe you should just watch where you're going.
Oh well. People used to get lost, start signal fires, burn the forest down. It was a California specialty, in fact. Now you can just scream into your cell phone.

Review: GPS Made Easy is a compelling, exciting and informative read for professional resource and infrastructure mappers, monitors and managers, as well as for lay readers. After her insightful and helpful book on Virtual Reality, Larijani again engages us with an accurate, clear, timely guide to a high-tech topic. She takes us on a delightful historical and practical journey, using everyday words and amusing sketches, and covers the practical applications in spades. She answers the questions (1) What is GPS? (2) How does it work? (3) What can it do? (4) What can't it yet do? And (5) What's being done to turn (4) into (3)? Once opened, it's a hard book to close until finished!

Summary: GPS Made Easy := "Wonderfull!!"
Review: GPS Made Easy is great! I bought a receiver and when I got it home, I discovered the manuals explained how to press the buttons, but not really how to navigate. I had a lot of experience navigating with a compass, map and altimeter, but I did not know anything about grids, datum or the receiver's accuracy. GPS Made Easy made everything clear. I now understand how the GPS system works, what my receiver can do for me and how to expertly use maps with my receiver. The book is very understandable and informative. I especially liked the examples that showed how GPS really works in the field.

Review: I got as much from my owner's manual as I did from this book. It might have been a better value if I bought it before I bought the GPS. It is also a little outdated, but I expected that with the technology changing so rapidly.If you want to completely understand all the techy stuff behind what makes GPS work than it just might be for you, but the owners manual that comes with your GPS will be plenty for most.

Summary: Concise Introductory Level GPS Book
Review: It is a good, introductory level GPS book for general users. It sets the record straight of the GPS technology limitations at present, but also describes what it can really do. Free from the usual geemicks you often read in GPS brochures. Not enough material on high precision GPS though.
