Rating: Summary: San Diego County trails at your fingertips. Review: This book is considered the hiker's 'bible' for San Diego County. If you want to know where to wander amongst giant sugar pines; if you like the idea of being alone on a rarely visited mountain top or ambling around a salt marsh or lagoon to view waterfowl -- Jerry Schad has authored an excellent resource that you will want to have. He has also authored similar guidebooks for other areas of southern California.

Rating: Summary: Informative but unclear Review: This book is great in that it shows you so many areas of San Diego you would have never found without it. I personally have enjoyed the book and used it so much that all the pages are falling out. The only problem my husband and I have found with the book is that we have gotten lost using Jerry's directions many times (ie Black Mountain). His directions to the trails are unclear and very brief. He mentions how to get to a trail and where to go when on the trail, but often he leaves out important information (such as trail intersections) that makes finding your way around very confusing. You might want to buy additional maps when using this book. Also, erosion, time and usage makes trails ever changing, so the book directions get out dated. I hope he comes up with a new edition soon! The fires that happened down here have also changed a lot of the trails.

Rating: Summary: Oldie Review: This book lists several trails that are no longer available to public. It's about 10 years old, which may explain the mistakes since the area has changed so much in the last decade. Also, the directions are poor, which can be dangerous. One hike took several hours longer because mileage was underestimated. . .
Rating: Summary: Anza Borrego Desert Review: This is my all time favorite guide to exploring the Anza Borrego Desert. I did most of the hikes in the desert region over the course of several years, and got a great sense of the author's relationship to the land. I'm buying it again after having lent it out and lost it. I wish there were hiking guides this good for other places I love.
Rating: Summary: IT REALLY HELPS ME GET OUT Review: This is one of my favorite book's, it sometimes will be the only thing to inspire me to go camping and hiking. This book makes me want to go hiking every day. Leaving your doorstep and traveling less then an hour to find yourself out of the city. It has all of San Diegos hikes and many mountian biking trails. It has great listing to let you know if you should attempt the hike or bike ride and if it would be good for children or dogs. The map at the start of the book could be a little better. It's the best guide for San Diego best hikes, with excellent driving directions. No other book even comes close. This book also has more pictures. It reminds me what a wonderful place San Diego is.
