Rating: Summary: Finally something for us old sailors Review: The first ever look at the special problems and delights that sailing poses for those over 50. The book argues that the best way to retire gracefully and with relevence is to take to the sea and stay at sea "until you drop. No one has ever looked at these matters. It is a true first....and in my view a true book.
Rating: Summary: Mostly Terrific Review: Very well written, good presentation of a large variety of subjects one might not even think of when going cruising. He tells it from the viewpoint of an 80+ year old who has done not only a lot of cruising, both bluewater and coastal, but a large variety of cruises in those categories.
He tends to be more than opinionated on several subjects, almost romantic on others.
I found his food recommendations to be lacking in both diversity and, even more importantly, in recent education. (As an example, he gives grudging approval of eggs, despite their cholesterol. Food cholesterol has been proven to have nothing whatsoever to do with cholesterol in the arteries, long since proven. And even that cholesterol is no longer thought to be anything other than a symptom.)
Other than those caveats, I'd love to meet this lively old codger while cruising. An excellent book for your cruising collection.
