Rating: Summary: Good, practical advice and a hoot to read! Review: They say that a person will consider an author good if they share they same philosophy. If so, George and I must be twins! Although he pokes some fun at engineers (I'm one), his description of a "stout" boat clearly transends anything I learned in school. If you are looking for a way to cruise without needing a six-figure income AND don't want to sit out in an open cockpit, this book will be very encouraging to you. In fact, he has about convinced me to start building a boat, a troller yacht, to head out into the Caribbean!
Rating: Summary: New book about old ideas Review: This book is in no way a "Guide to Crossing Oceans" as the title implies. It is a new book about the author's antiquated boat design ideas for budget minded boaters. The book offers little to no information regarding what one needs to know in order to plan or undertake an oceanic powerboat crossing.

Rating: Summary: It opened my eyes. Review: This book knocked my socks off because I knew what Bueler was saying but, well, I somehow didn't know it, if that makes sense. This book brought me back to earth. I love boats, the ocean, and being around them but I am bored with sailboats but never considered a powerboat. I hope and assume Buehler sells his designs because I want one. I don't know if I'll build it or not; probably not. There's plenty of steel yards around. If he doesn't, maybe I'll go buy an old troller and convert it because I remember, long ago, I thought about that. I remember that now, affet reading this book. I remember what I thought years ago.... Good show, Buehler. What will you write for us next?
Rating: Summary: The Ultimate Econo-Yacht Review: This book was about Econo-Yachts, Snailboats, World cruisers, motorboats with displacement hulls that are faster than sailboats but slower than plaining boats. This book sparked my interest in long range cruising with power boats that compare favorably with sailboats. Unfortunately there aren't many around. The closest category is pilot house boats with small diesel engines that travel at hull speed [1.34 times the square root of the waterline]and aux sails. This book introduces the possibility of going around the world for the price of a set of sailboat sails at faster than sailboat speed. The book includes too small to read plans and building recomendations for this kind of boat. I highly recommend this book for those interested in this kind of travel. This book is about the boat not the travel itself. Delbert Jolly
Rating: Summary: Owning & Operating a Reasonably Priced Power Cruiser Review: This is a wonderful book about building and owning reasonably priced power boats, as well as why it's so difficult to find such boats from the standard manufacturers today. I,too, have often wondered exactly why a 40' power cruiser should cost $350,000 and need 350 horsepower to move through the water. After reading this book, I now know: 1. it doesn't have to be that way, but 2. the boating industry profits handsomely from that structure. Whether you agree with Mr. Buehler's opinions or not, you really should put his book on your "must reading" list prior to making a considerable investment in your own boat. The included boat plans, the interesting equipment discussions, and Mr. Buehler clear writing style make this one of the best books on the topic I've ever read.

Rating: Summary: Outstanding book Review: This is an outstanding book for anyone thinking of converting from a world "rag bagging" to that of "stink pots"! I never thought that the day would come when anyone would be able to show, let alone convince, me that I could entertain the same dreams of a voyage under power that is possible under sail. After reading this book, I now feel that I WILL NOT have to give up my dreams of going to sea just because I am growing older and becoming less agile or tolerant of the disconforts sailing. All of this and at a price that is obtainable. This book will keep your dreams alive!
