Rating: Summary: nice little analogy of sailing and life Review: I thought that the book was a nice little analogy comparing the lesons of sailing with life. Although not a sailor, I found the author's experiences with sailing similar to my own from running.
Rating: Summary: The metaphors in this book are well understood by sailors Review: I was a bit skeptical when first starting to read this book, however the author has made many astute observations using sailing metaphors. I have done a fair bit of sailing throughout my life, and I can relate to the observations made. It is a very well written book with quite a bit of substance, and a fast read. There were sections in the book that made me laugh and then cry as the points made were so on the mark. I recommend this book.

Rating: Summary: Perfect for Pensive Sailors Review: I'm a sailor & I really liked this book, although you don't have to sail to appreciate the story. In each chapter Bode tells a tale from his youth about sailing his small blue sloop off of Long Island. He weaves in some of the life-lessons he's learned from reflecting on those experiences without being too sappy about it. Bode is also able to convey some of the intangible reasons why sailors love sailing, reasons that are sometimes hard to articulate. Overall, this book is a quick, light, inspirational read. It's a perfect gift for any pensive sailors in your life.

Rating: Summary: Sailing Fuzzyness Review: If I weren't a sailor, I'd give the book 3 stars. The writing is straightforward and eloquent, and what it lacks in sophistication it makes up in intimacy to its metaphor. The 'life lessons' are applicable, but sometimes feel too wishy washy and/or forced. All in all, a nostalgic read for us who bleed salt water that may leave land lubbers reaching for their scopolamine.
Rating: Summary: This Book is Like a Treasure No One Knows About... Review: It's always nice to find an undisturbed beach that you have to yourself. Judging by the lack of reveiws on this book, that's what this is - a beautiful piece of work that few know about. Suffice it to say that Ricard Bode has a talent for sharing inspiration through metaphors. He's damn fine writer as well. I will keep this book close to me the rest of my life. Thanks Richard....keep them coming please.
Rating: Summary: Quite simply, a good book Review: My best friend recommended this book to me. I picked it up, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am a high school teacher, and I distribute this book to each of my seniors when they graduate. (Normally, I don't have a lot of seniors in my classes. :-) ) I found this book very thought-provoking, and it gave me a very unique perspective on life. This book is definitely worth the read - it's short and light, and you'll be reading it more than once.
Rating: Summary: Light weight life's philosophy book. Review: Ok, this book appeals to me, but the basic message is one that I've followed all my life. "To give your life meaning, get a boat!" , ok that's not quite what he says, its more like, "follow your dreams." But his dream was to own and mess-a-bout in boats and that's mine too. So landlubbers aren't going to get the "follow the dreams" message because he talks about it in boating concepts... row when you can't see where you are going, but trust that you'll avoid the rocks.. tack if the straight way is impossible but don't lose sight of the marks... Sailors will love it.
