Rating: Summary: The best book in running. Review: Once a Runner is the top running book of all time. It explores a runner named Quenton Cassidy and his trials and tribulations as a runner. Even for the non runner, this book is a well written captivating novel that keeps your interest all the way. It gets you involved and feeling what the characters are feeling. It is a must buy for any lover of the sport and even those who know nothing about it!
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Book I have ever read. Review: Once a Runner by John Parker is easily the greatest book I have ever read in my life. In addition to being the most inspirational running novel out there it is perhaps the best written book I have read. Once a Runner helps every runner see that they can go as far with the sport as they want.
Rating: Summary: The best running novel of all times Review: If you are a high school, college, or professional distance runner, this is a must read for you. Buy it, borrow it, read it!
Rating: Summary: best thing that i have ever read. Review: couldn't put it down. now i usually take a copy with me everywhere i go
Rating: Summary: A book without words. Review: On the van ride to a meet two days ago, a teammate threw the book at me and said, "Here freshman, read this. You got 'til we get back tomorrow." I finished it with hours to spare on the van ride. Parker wrote without words...you read this book, and you don't think that Parker understands writing about running...you think that Parker understands running. I've never seen anything yet that came so close to the truth; he knew my pain and love, and he captured it seemingly without difficulty. And now, I go to order my own copy of the book...one that I can underline MY own favourite parts, and write my inspirational messages inside the covers!
Rating: Summary: Scary Good Review: An unbelievable read. Crazy good. The most incredible account of a competitive runner that I have ever laid eyes on. This book lights a spark like nothing else. The first time I read this book I was laid up with the flu. What a mistake that was. I got even sicker as I trudged out of bed to go run. This book will do it to you.
Rating: Summary: For every high school or college runner Review: This is the best inspirational running book for any competative runner. If you are having a low point in your training, want a good read, or want something to start a fire in your gut before a big race, THIS IS THE BOOK!
Rating: Summary: makes me want to run until I die of heart failure Review: I love underdog stories. Probably because as a skinny white guy going to Duke to play basketball, I am an underdog. But damnit, this book is awesome. It makes you want to conquer the world. The writing, as far as I can tell, is very good. It had me mezmarized and made my heart race with anticipation. If you're a runner, a basketball player, or any serious athlete who knows what it's like to push yourself to a point where you feel like you're going to die, and then go above and beyond, this book is an absolute must.
Rating: Summary: An extremely moving book. Every word is beautiful. Review: Once a Runner is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. It perfectly captures the trials of a runner. It is very inspirational and reminds the reader of the reason one runs. It is a runner's bible and can be reread over and over again. 5 stars, no question.
Rating: Summary: Captures the spirit of serious, competitive distance runners Review: There is a secret fraternity of serious, competitive runners - the ones who don't try to explain that they don't jog, they run, the ones who "just did it" before it became a slogan. It's not a hobby, it's a lifestyle, it's a religion, and Parker has written the anthem. 15 years later, I still laugh out loud at parts - could have been our college team - or yours. If OAR was made into a movie, it would be "Top Gun." Stands on my shelf next to Atlas Shrugged and Zen & the Art of Motorcyle Maintenance as one of my top three. You'll need two copies - one for yourself and one to lend out.
