Summary: Amazingly accurate
Review: I am 16 years old and a dedicated runner. This book was recommended to me by a fellow runner. I never believed anyone could describe, let alone put into words, the intricacies of track and distance running. His imagery is amazing, and hits the nail right on the head in every aspect.

Summary: An Old Favorite
Review: I read this book about ten years ago. It was only a matter of a week or two before it had been passed around to everyone on my x-c team. I've had three children since then, and am just beginning to get back into running again. This book came to mind, in almost a haunting way. Once a runner...well, it just becomes part of your soul.

Summary: Reading this book was almost as fun as a hard interval day!
Review: Great book, it was given to me by an older running friend, and I am definately glad that he did. I read it faster than I have ever read any other book...it was so vivid that it seemed like I was right there with Cassiday. Recommended to anyone and everyone.

Summary: The BEST book I've ever read!
Review: I'm a sophomore in highschool and I'm also a extremely dedicated cross-country and track runner. This book has changed my life! The inspirational story of Quenton Cassidy's runner career left me breathless! The first chapter gave me goose-bumps because it decribed the start of a race perfectly. I read chapters from the book every night before a big race. Reading about Cassidy's determination gives any runner a boost. This book has to have the most accurate description of a runners mentality ever written. This is the best book about running I've ever read!

Summary: Once a Runner is a great book
Review: I am a high school runner who just finished Once a runner. This is a book that I would recommend to anyone runner or non-runner I think that people who don't know anything about running would still be on the edge of their seats while reading about Quenton Cassiday's downfalls and triumphs.

Summary: Not just a great novel about running, but a great novel peri
Review: Never before has a writer been able to capture the sport of running in words like John L. Parker Jr. Once A Runner is not just a great novel about running, but a great novel period. As a high school coach I give it to every serious runner I coach. As an English Major and voracious reader I recommend it to non-runners.

Summary: This is a book about winning.
Review: "Are you there, God?" I whisper at night, kneeling with my hands pressed together, elbows on the edge of the bed. "Please someday allow me the talent, tenacity and rhythm to write like John Parker in Once A Runner." It hasn't happened yet, so until then you must read this book if you want to read the best fictional book written about running. It has its humorous and sad elements, and very motivational ones, as well. But the real reason for you to buy this book is so that you know that there really is another human out there who fights off self-doubt, runs in the 10 pm rain, wants to see his name on the yearly lists, and above all wants to win - Quenton Cassidy. Take comfort in that.

Summary: The Most Brilliant Review
Review: Both my friend and I are true runners, like the one described in this remarkable book. Just after I had been amazed by Parker's novel, I gave it to him to read. When he finished I wanted to know what he thought about it. He came into the room and dropped the book down on the table, and for a moment we both just sat looking at the maroon paperback with the blurry painting in the middle. I looked up at him for his review, and after he met my glance he uttered the most brilliant review of Once A Runner that I've heard so far: he nodded his head and said "Yeah, you know, that's...yeah." The real runners know.

Summary: One of my top five favorite books of all time!
Review: Simply a great book. Nothing comes closer to explaining what it is like to run on a college team. I have read it at least 4 times and loved it every time.

John Parker has outdone all others when it comes to writing about running. I only wish it were longer!
