Rating: Summary: Great book! But don't buy BLACK SCIENCE Review: I love the book but got ripped off when Amazon.com's site suggested I buy this book and "Black Science: Ancient and modern techniques of ninja mind manipulation" together. They are the SAME BOOK! Somebody at Amazon.com should pay A LOT MORE ATTENTION to their site. They should not be tricking us into buying the SAME book, with just different titles. This is a great book, but just get this one. Don't buy BLACK SCIENCE also, or you will find out that you just waisted your money!
Rating: Summary: don't put it down - just buy it! Review: I was recently browsing through books at a bookstore looking for books that deal with Ninja philosophy - I became intriqued after watching a movie called Ghost Dog. I picked this book up and proceeded to thumb through it. 30 minutes later I bought it. It is amazing to know that the field of psychology was being developed thousands of years ago in a different culture than German. Get this book and learn the "two ways", "the five weaknesses", how birth order effects a persons general attitude. Then go out and control other people's minds.
Rating: Summary: great Review: This was the greatest book I have ever read. The material was excellent and the authors writing style superb. This was the first Lung book I read and after I was hooked. As much as I was enjoying it and being absolutely hypnotised by it that i'm sure the authors really knew what they were talking about. I give it five stars, but having said that, this book probably isn't for everyone.
Rating: Summary: Shockingly good! Review: To be honest, I expected a bunch of mystical voodooesque mumbo jumbo and was pleasantly surprised by this well-written and insightful tome. If you think about it, mind manipulation not only exists, but we are exposed to it on a daily basis. Marketers convince us to buy things that we do not really need all the time. Just think about how many of us willingly pay our favorite barrista more than $4.00 for a buck worth of coffee just because it's called espresso.
Ever heard the of term propaganda? Politicos spin events to make us believe in their candidates or their agenda. To turn sinister for a moment, how many of you would willingly kill yourself for a cause, no matter how dearly held? Yet all over the world terrorists convince their followers to do just that. As Jim Jones once said, "cool aide anyone?"
OK, so people play mind games all the time. We all know that. So, what does the book say about it?
It begins with a brief and interesting historical look at ninjutsu, including an excellent description of the nine training halls, five of which focus primarily on physical skills while the other four are primarily mental. There is an excellent section about understanding the mind, delving briefly into how input is processed along with the mental filters that can distort reality from what folks actually experience. The power of symbols and beliefs is also described. I hadn't really thought about it in this way before, but a mere picture can be a powerful emotional trigger. Think about what your reaction would be to seeing a swastika, a burning cross, or an upraised middle finger if you don't believe me. These first sections are brief yet well done.
From there the book delves deeply into how to use this information to understand and manipulate others or defend against those who would use such techniques against you. The step-by-step applications are pithy yet very well written. It is a great sociological and psychological study, one that is far more relevant and useful than I ever expected. We've all heard of good cop/bad cop, right? That's just one of many techniques covered in detail. I especially liked the section on how to tell whether or not someone is lying.
This book is brief, but not too brief. You can't read this a couple times and magically develop superhuman mind powers. You can, however, learn some interesting and, for the most part, useful information.
