Rating: Summary: Most Comprehensive Guide!! Review: A most comprehensive guide to dive sites in the state of Florida from Pensacola to Key West and all points in between, including many great spring dives in and around my neck of the woods, Central Florida. The book breaks down the entire state into regions and lists the best dives in each region: Reefs, Wrecks, Springs and Caves from 20fsw to technical dives in the 200fsw range. All the necessary details are there for each dive location. You can plan a multiple day, multiple dive trip with this in depth volume and never leave the easy chair. Of course, it is always smart to check local conditions to see what going on in any area before you go flying into the water. If you're a diver living in Florida, you must get this book. I know in a few short years my copy will be sufficiently salt sprayed, tattered and worn.
Rating: Summary: Mandatory ownership for Florida divers Review: Deloach's book is an excellent diving resource. His sections on the Florida Keys served as reference material for us building our website. They are informative, accurate and helpful. We use his book when we dive other parts of Florida, and have always found it helpful to look up the divesite in his book prior to hitting the water. Strongly Recommended.
Rating: Summary: GPS numbers not accurate, and who uses Loran C anymore? Review: Great overall guide, but sent me on several wild goose chases after SE Florida GPS numbers. Suggest the author/publisher invest in getting these numbers verified, or at least add a notice indicating which GPS numbers have and have not been verified. Also, why bother listing Loran-C numbers. Who uses that anymore?
Hope the 11the edition just out is better, but I'm not buying until I see changes in the bad GPS numbers.

Rating: Summary: Pretty Good- Wish the GPS numbers were better Review: I bought this book as a way of finding new GPS coordinates in the Tampa area to dive. This book was pretty good, with a great description of each site. However, the GPS coordinates are pretty much run of the mill numbers, you'll find every local charter dive boat and fishing boat there, but not a bad place to start. Where the book starts to fall apart though is when it starts telling you, Place X is 1.7 miles on a 335 course north of point Y. That info. does you no good. When you are looking for a ledge the size of a small car, close doesn't count. Also, it seemed like all the more interesting sites were given in Loran numbers. Anyone who knows GPS knows that you can't accurately convert Loran to GPS, so those numbers are worthless for all but the 3 people in the world still using Loran. Overall, a great book for people just learning a new area to fish or dive, but expect everyone in that area to have that number. Good book with good info. For those looking for more GPS numbers, try nauticalcharts.com... VERY GOOD MAPS.

Rating: Summary: A Florida Diver's Best Friend Review: I bought this book for my fiance as a birthday present and it turned out to be a great find for both of us. The details about each site are very useful and allow us to plan our dive trips with ease. The latitude/longitude coordinates of each site are listed as well, which allows us to find the exact locations (with the aid of GPS). This saves time and energy and ensures that we get the full experience at each site as opposed to spending a lot of time swimming around looking for the reef or wreck. Having focused all of our diving experiences offshore, this book has opened up the area of freshwater and spring diving that we hope to try. If you own your own boat, this book is a must have. Even if you are a shore diver, this book has some great beach sites. We couldn't imagine diving anywhere in Florida without the information provided in this book!!

Rating: Summary: Good guide but it should be updated. Review: I have been diving out of this book for about three years. I have found that several of the springs mentioned in the "panhandle" area have been closed. I fell in love with the Florida springs system from the first moment and was somewhat dismayed that all of the entries in the book were not available for diving. I have spent countless hours and a lot of money on long distance phone calls trying to determine what was open and "diveable". Anyone wanting to avoid the same pitfalls may contact me for information on specific springs in that area. I have not, by any means, been through them all, but the ones I have called on, I will share with you. Happy diving, Frogman at (palmers68@aol.com.)
