Summary: Walk, climb and fall through your life's challenges.
Review: This book is a must read for any person desiring to improve their life but find that it's difficult to do so. The author, a common man with uncommon hardships, educates the reader about life through his unique lens. As the trail goes, so will your emotions - from ups to downs and everything inbetween. Read this book and you'll find that you too have what it takes to climb mountains!

Summary: As Inspirational as "Jonathon Livingston Seagull"!
Review: This book is truly about the obstacles we face in life and how we overcome them through our personal attitude, philosophy toward life, and sometimes purely "gutting-it-out" determination. I haven't felt this way about a book since reading "Jonathon Livingston Seagull" by Richard Bach when I was a teenager. These two books will sit side-by-side on my personal bookshelf. Mr. Platt's book leaves one with a resonating, uplifted feeling toward life. All I have to do is look at his book and feel better about whatever life is sending my way. If I need further motivation, I just read it again!!!!

Summary: I got it, I really got it!
Review: This book should be mandatory reading for anyone feeling sorry for themselves. My mom gave it to me because she knew I'd been in a mental slump lately. Reluctantly I finally got around to it. And boy am I glad I did! Jay (or Patch) has a way of connecting with the reader. It's like he's actually there with you, talking to you, telling you his story. For the first time in my life, I have to say that I got it, I mean I really got it! Thanks Jay. I look forward to your next one.

Summary: Just what I needed
Review: This book was just what I needed to get me out of the slump I've been in lately. Feeling sorry for myself, staying in my comfort zone, etc. If you're looking for detailed "how to" on hiking the Appalachian Trail, this ain't it. But, if you're looking for a book that gives you great instruction for your hike along the "trail of life" then look no further. It's a great book and I highly recommend it!

Summary: A must read!
Review: This grimy guy with the eye patch and walking stick is pretty gutsy, I thought to myself after I had spent some time with Jay Platt on the terrace of the Pennsylvania state capitol building in Harrisburg. He was midway through his Appalachian walk and a friend had insisted I drive up the turnpike to meet him because he was so special. It turned out she was right, but I had no idea how special until I read this book. As a writer, my envy-driven first reaction was simple: this former Marine from some southern backwater has no business writing this well. As a man, I am deeply touched by his understanding of the human spirit and how it can be trampled by the slightest of weights or powered to new heights by true adversity. In this age of cynicism and drivel-wrapped-in-sophistication, Jay's home-spun truisms and humor are a breath mint for the soul. If he takes to a horse, I will really suspect Jay Platt is Will Rogers incarnate. Thanks, Patch!

Summary: A Great Book
Review: This is a book about the author's hike on a trail, and the lessons of life that he learned along the way. He tells his story in a fascinating way, and keeps you wanting to turn the page. It is a funny, adventurous, inspirational, and motivational story that leaves you thinking about your own life and whether or not you are living your life the way you want to. He makes you open your eyes and make a conscienous effort to pay attention to others and by taking 5 minutes with someone you may be saving their life. This book made me re-evaluate my life and the way I live it.

Summary: Great book
Review: This is a great book. My dad and I were planning to hike the trail so got this book. It was so good, sad and funny I shared it with my friends. I hope he is doing ok, and look forward to his next book and adventure.

Summary: Hiking advice lite
Review: This is a lite-weight book containing lite-weight advice. In fact, it's barely a book at all, since the font is huge and on most pages the text ends way before the page does. Nevertheless, this book reflects the high character and admirable spirit of the author, Jay Platt, who hiked the entire AT with a debilitating disease. My hat is off to him. Although I didn't think much of his book, by the end of it I liked the author very much. He strikes me as a straight-forward, honest, and kind man. His book is intended as advice for life ("life lessons"). If you would benefit from learning that life is like a hiking trail (sometimes it goes up, and sometimes it goes down), then this is the book for you. But since I had already figured out that life has some ups and downs, and that attitude can be quite important, reading the book was for me, a down.

Summary: Not realy a book about the AT
Review: This is a Very short book...a one afternooner at the most! But I'm realy not sure why he makes it sound like its a book about the AT. Its about his personal trials and hardships! he does give hope to those looking for inspiration! But for the reader whos looking for a good book about the AT, or about hiking in general... this book is not the one your looking for. If your looking for some good light reading about life, then by all meens Buy this book!
