Rating: Summary: Excellent guide for beginner and intermediate players Review: A very good general guide to paintball for beginners, as well as a useful resource for team tactics and new game scenarios for more advanced players. Highly recommended
Rating: Summary: Old but Interesting Review: Don't get this book if you are looking to improve your game. "The Complete Guide to Paintball" is for that. This book is mainly interesting because it is an artifact from long times ago (10 years or so). Following the advice in this book will get you hurt, so please don't. But if you are wondering how the game was once played, and what made it, arguably, more fun then today, give it a look. It also has some very nice diagrams about flanking and field of fire.
Rating: Summary: too dang old Review: everything in theis book is outdated. taticts, EQ, safty EQ, games, all too dang old
Rating: Summary: Pretty good book for painball basics, though highly outdated Review: I enjoyed the book very much. It is excellent for anybody who is starting thier first team or is rather new to the sport. Do realize that this book was written ORIGINALLY close to 10 years ago. The sport has dramatically changed and so has the equipment. A lot of the tactics in the book are still used today even by Professional teams. There are tactics in the book that are very outdated though with the advent of semi and full auto, direct fed paintball markers. Also, check with your local field about some of the rules of the game that Mr. Barnes mentions in his book. They may not be part of the game anymore. (IE: Red paint and yelling "Dead man" instead of "hit") Realise that paintball is a sport of teamwork, comraderie, and most of all, FUN! We do not condone war, death, or any other such terrible images that USED to be associated with our sport. (Circa early '80's) Thanks for the forum! Please note: I don't in any way think Mr. Barnes is condoning war in his book. It's just that paintball STARTED out as a survival game. It is not that way anymoreScott "WileyCat" Hanline Captain, Team Terminal Velocity
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed it Review: I enjoyed this book a lot. Sure it's a little outdated, but paintball ain't that complicated, folks, and this book explains the basics clearly. It also provides some good ideas for non-Capture the Flag games and general team motivation and strategies. I definitely recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Good book on tactics, could be more polished. Review: I found Bill Barnes' tips on starting a team and hints on tactics and how to play different terrain features very informative. The book does have some drawbacks as he recommends the Nelspot 007 as the best gun out there. I do realize that it was written almost 9 years ago, but he would have done a better service to his readers if he didn't mention specific equipment. Worth the price of the book in my opinion. Not for sniper wannabes though.
Rating: Summary: Awesome book for beginning teams! Review: I used this to start my team. Our team is doing well with battle plans- thanks to this book!
Rating: Summary: not as good as others claim Review: i've read this book, and yes, it indeed does give a rookie good insights on sportsmanship and strategy. but it doesn't offer enough to keep the intermediate player interested. recommended only for the beginner.
Rating: Summary: this book is the best paintball book published Review: it goes indepth with pictures on do's and dont's for a rookie player and much much more i formed my own team using the guidlines in this book and we use all the tactics. a very good buy
Rating: Summary: Some topics are outdated, but still is a good resource Review: My overall impressions of this book were pretty good. Unfortunately, due to the rapid growth of the technology of paintball equipment, many of the equipment and stratigies covered in this book are no longer valid in regular paintball play. However similar equipment is used in "stock class" play, although this is less popular than the use of newer equipment. But many of the overall team stratigies are extremely good and are still valid for any type of play. The illustrations were also very helpful. I would recomend this book for any player who wants to get into stock class play, or anyone who would like to learn more about overall tactics.
