Rating: Summary: A great resource for anyone seeking to have a better body!! Review: This book is a great resource for anyone seeking to build a better body. It includes practical information that beginners as well as experienced lifters can easily incorporate into their workout routine. I especially like this book because it is written in simple, down-to-earth language that is easy to understand. Also, as a female I find that most male trainers are arrogant and don't want to give women the time of day. Mr. Melfa has written a book that is respectful of women and gives explanations tailored to our needs as well. He includes photographs that give a complete view of the exercise from beginning to end. I stopped seeing results for a while and wanted to quit. Reading this book has boosted my enthusiasm and determination to reach my fitness goals.
Rating: Summary: An excellent reference book Review: I wanted to know the correct way to work the different muscles and groups and this book gives clear, concise information which helped me get in the best shape of my life (about 10% body fat) at the age of 44. There are ample details on all aspects of fitness from exercise to nutrition and when he writes that 'this works' or 'that doesn't', the reader gets the sense that he knows by direct experience. I have never found reason to question his advice. A very thorough and useful book.
Rating: Summary: This is the book to buy. Review: I wanted to start bodybuilding but didn't know which book to buy. I saw some recommendations here on Amazon and so I bought this one. I've never read a bodybuilding book before, so I'm really grateful for what this book has provided. It contained answers to all of my questions about working out and taught me the importance of good eating habits in conjunction with exercise.
Rating: Summary: Melfa Has Mastered the Fundamentals Review: As with any discipline, mastery of the fundamentals yields results. Melfa has mastered the fundamentals of bodybuilding. And, more importantly, he has mastered the art of instruction. This book is not about motivation. It's about demonstration. If you want to build a strong foundation and see results fast, this is your book. From eating to exercise, Frank Melfa tells you and shows you exactly what you need to do to build muscle and feel great!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, practical guide Review: The author has a passion for weight training and bodybuilding, and it comes through with wit, insight, and energy that makes the book interesting, informative, and fun to read. I found this to be one of the best books I've come across for the average person (young or old) who wants to get started or improve his/her training. Good tips on the right way to perform exercises. (My copy is highlited in yellow throughout!)
Rating: Summary: If you are looking for instant motivation, this is the book! Review: I've read other books regarding both health and nutrition and exercise, and even though they gave great advice, all they talk about seems very unrealistic. Bodybuilding a Realistic Approach is so real! Not only does Frank Melfa give great advice regarding nutrition, lifestyle and exercise, but he shows it through his own personal experience. You see that this man who has achieved such great results had the same problems and snags over the years that most people have, and his writing really motivates you to continue through the rough times and spots in your life. I'm very glad I found his book and I look forward to recommending it to my friends. It changed my whole outlook on bodybuilding and working out, and I know that I can do it!
Rating: Summary: A BIBLE to anyone looking to better his/her body. Review: I bought a weight bench in 1990, and it has collected dust in my basement for the past 9 years. I never really knew what to do with it--I just wanted to get stronger! Well, after purchaseing Frank's book a month ago, I'm well on my way to a stronger, leaner, healthier body. Frank explains all the ins and outs of weight training, separating fact from fiction, disecting the relationships between certain exercises and the muscles used to perform them, and even suggesting (convincingly) a healthy diet. The photos are great, and his descriptions of each lift are even better. A wonderful companion to the book is his personal webpage, which he updates frequently. So far I have e-mailed two questions to Frank, and his replies have been timely and thorough. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this book as THE BIBLE to which any male or female weight train. Thank you very much for all of your help, Frank.
Rating: Summary: Comprehensive and easy to read and understand! Review: It's all here! A well written manual meant for beginners, advanced, and everyone in between. No, you don't have to be into hardcore competitions to use this book (although there is plenty of information for the advanced Bodybuilder), Frank Melfa has written it for EVERYONE! This book is very concise and easy to read, and everything is covered from the usual training and nutrition, to shaving and posing for those into competitions. Frank has also included training and nutrition advice for those into toning to those who want to get into competition, he's basically left the choices up to you. There's also a section devoted to those who workout in their homes, or who just need a quick workout when time is tight! Just follow his advice, and you'll find it's very practical advice, and you'll be surprised how easy it is to build a better body. Throw away all those Muscle Mags with their "expert" advice, this book really hits ALL the necessary points truthfully and honestly! A great find!!
Rating: Summary: A must for the beginner Review: Great book easy to read and understand but still packed with information. Everything you need to know. The beginner as well as the more experienced will have great use for this book.
