Summary: One just for us!
Review: Finally a book just for woman athletes! I have had sports related injuries in the past and now I know what to do to prevent them. I thought the information was great and presented in a concise and easy to follow manner. I recommend this book to highly.

Summary: Finally, a book that understands the "female" athlete!
Review: Having raised a swimmer, bowler and softball girl we're very familiar with muscle pains, pulled ligaments and shoulder and neck issues. It's nice to hear something other then "ice it and elevate it"! Female bodies are different than male bodies, particularly during puberty, and it is nice to be able to identify and commiserate with other females on common (and not so common) injuries and the correct preventative measures to take both on and off the field. Bravo! to Gloria Beam and Ruth Winter for a well written and informative book!

Summary: I waited so long for a book like this
Review: I am an avid runner and have been plagued with injuries. After reading the book I learned that I have been stretching wrong and not working out my legs and back correctly. I have been starving for information like this for so long. I have spoken to so many of my friends who are active also and they love the book. It is so important to understand our bodies. I feel confident that this book will help my running in the future. I have recommended this book to everyone.

Summary: Good for the Injury-Prone Weekend Warrior
Review: I got this book for my girlfriend. While not a competitve athlete she does play several sports and has been injured in all of them. I liked the fact that this book was written by a female doctor/athlete. A large part of the book is broken down by sport and explains the injuries typical of each one along with tips on prevention.

My "walk it off" advice never gets a good reaction so I'm counting on this book to reduce future injuries.

Summary: Great reference book! written in words I can understand
Review: I loved this book! It was easy to read and understand and I was able to reference it according to the sports that I participate in. The material was written in a concise, interesting manner and it was not overly detailed. I especially appreciated the chapter that focuses on chronic conditions that can affect me during various sports, as I have mild arthritis in my neck. The exercises that pertain to this problem have already helped!

Summary: If you're an active woman, you should read this book...
Review: I was so impressed with both the amount of information in this book and the ease of finding information specific to a certain body part or sport. It reads like a casual conversation with a trusted trainer/doctor--all the medical terms are explained well in "normal peoplese" language--and yet it's very comprehensive and does focus both on the prevention and treatment of common sports and activity injuries in females.

I played 3 sports in high school, did intramurals in college, and have participated in various adult leagues and other physical activities ever since my college graduation 5 years ago. I seriously wish that someone had given me this book 10 or 15 years ago, so I could have been doing more to protect my body and optimize my performance all this time... and I am buying more copies of this book to give out to all of my active girlfriends for their next holiday/birthday.

Summary: I LOVE this book!!
Review: I'm an athlete. Reading this book helped me to understand how to avoid common injuries associated with the sports I play that I had previously experienced and how to prevent them. It was so well written and easy to read. Thank you Dr. Beim! Now when I participate in any sport, I can do so with the added knowledge of preventing injury.

Summary: Too many topics, not enough detail on any
Review: I'm returning this book today. I did not think it was at all as described. It is a book that lists many sports and the problems associated with them. The problem is that she covers so many areas that there is not much detail in any of them. If you have spent any time at all in your sport, you will already know all of the information. For example, she covers scuba diving. If you have your scuba certification, you had to know all of the information to pass the test anyway! I was looking for a good book on the general injuries that women athletes frequently encounter and this was not it. I currently have an injury that I think can be one of two common injuries and neither one of them was addressed in the book.
