Rating: Summary: For this book there should be a Sixth star. Review: This is the absolute definitive guide to Aikido. Everything from technique to preparations are in here with drawings that plot movements step by step. This book is on equal ground with that of Bruce Lee's "The Tao of Jeet Kune Do." if not better. If you want to see what Aikido is about, don't worry about talking to its students, just read this book.
Rating: Summary: Reinforcing and Inspiring Review: This book is an excellent resource for those studying Aikido. The excellent illustrations by Oscar Ratti show clearly the intent and "motion" of a technique , i find this a lot better then photographs . A surprisingly motivating veiw on the spiritual side of Aikido is also an important part of this book , which i have enjoyed . Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: The best Aikido book out there. Review: I have a huge collection of martial arts books and this is by far the best. Very well written with great illustrations. Even if you don't practice aikido, you will get something out of it.
Rating: Summary: Must buy for any Martial Artist. Review: The only book on Aikido you will ever need. Buy two, one for your dojo bag and a copy for your book shelf.
Rating: Summary: a must read for beginners with little time Review: Having only minimal experience with Aikido, and limited time I found that this book was a great source for learning this artform on my own schedule. I shopped around for a few days before settling on this book mainly becuase of its clear pictures and wonderful descriptions of movement. I fealt that it far surpassed any other text for ease of use and mastery. Additionally, while reading I found that it equally imparted the "feel" of the techniques and theory behind them which seemed to add another dimension to learning. Although I do not think that this book will take you to the master level it definitely is a must read for beginners.
Rating: Summary: Interested in Aikido, heres a good start! Review: After reading this book, I have been inspired to take up the art of aikido. It contains a brief outline of the theories, and explanation of aikido principles that are clear and to the point. Further, it illustrates the actual practice and excercises involved in aikido. All of which are described in vivid detail, and easy to grasp. While learning aikido or any other martial art from a book would be difficult, if not impossible, this book will provide a good first look at aikido.
Rating: Summary: The "Bible" of Aikido Review: This book cleary defines the art of Aikido. From the beginner to the advanced, page after page gives you step by step instruction on each of the arts. After studying this book and practicing in the dojo I was able improve my skill level. Within one year I was promoted to 3rd kyu, unheard of in most dojo's. A must have for any Akidioist!!
Rating: Summary: A Must Have Review: My wife, daughter, and myself have been training for only 3 months or so...This book has been invaluable as a reference to what we are currently learning. The drawings and explanations when coupled w/ even our limited background make things very clear...Great book.
Rating: Summary: A clear view of the philosophy and practice of aikido. Review: THE great thing that I found about reading this book was the ability of my mind to see my own body moving in accordance to the pictures and words. The history and general philosophy of aikido bring forward a good-humored account of the feelings the aikidoist aspires to in training and in life. A good buy which is well worth the money - you will return to it countless times.
Rating: Summary: If you only own one book on aikido, this should be it. Review: This is one of the books you will keep referring to as long as aikido is in your life. It is as pertinent to me today as when I bought it in 1976. The illustrations are clear and much easier to follow than many books with photographs. The text takes you from beginner basics to advanced techniques. I wish the authors would collaborate on a new book giving us the benifit of their 30+ years of experience.
