Summary: A Reference textbook for Aikidokas
Review: This book has a wonderful balance of the underlying philosophy of the art as well as the technical aspects. While I wish there were more focus on the throws, bokken and jo movements, the second half of the book serves as an excellent reference for Aikidokas. Reading this book periodically gives me new insights and clarifies some of the movements that are taught in class. This book is invaluable, especially before grading.

Summary: This book had been translated into French
Review: I have only one year studying Aikido in France and it is hard to find good books related to it. I greatly recommend this one because of it's clarity. It doesn't emphasize only on techniques as most book usually do but approach Aikido in his philosophical and spiritual aspect. It's my bible. Note: the drawings are very clear and nice compare to all of other books I have seen :)

Summary: good introductory philosophy, excellent reference work
Review: I used this book often when I was living in Japan and studying Aikido. My sensei emphasized the spiritual / philosophical aspects of Aikido more than other sensei I have studied under; those explanations and concepts can be somewhat esoteric even for native Japanese, so while I was at a linguistic disadvantage compared to the other students, this book gave me a good, broad overview of the mental / spiritual underpinnings of Aikido as a whole, so that I was not completely lost during his discussions. The artwork which is used to illustrate the many basic techniques is not complicated by any means; but it is perfectly suited to its purpose: to as clearly as possible show correct form and technique. I used this book for review purposes before a promotion test, or just to try and figure out what I was doing incorrectly or how I could improve. I wouldn't recommend using this or any other book in lieu of actual real training, but this book is an excellent supplement.

Summary: The best book for aikido students young and old
Review: This book is really great! I am relitively new to aikido and my style of is tomiki aikido, but this book caught my interest and kept it. It has detailed illustrations, great descriptions of techniques, and two fold out charts. It is one of the most comprehensive books on aikido out there!

Summary: The Ultimate Book for Aikido Students
Review: I have been a martial artist for nearly 8 years now. I received my Black Belt in Kenpo Karate almost 2 years ago and I am still actively learning. After reading this book I have adapted my system to include some of the techniques present. This book is the ULTIMATE BOOK FOR AIKIDO STUDENTS AND ALL MARTIAL ARTISTS that are serious about their skills. This book reads like a manual. It first explains the nature of its techniques then with excellent illustrations it shows exactly how the are done. With a complete history of Aikido preceding the text this book is a must have for anyone serious in the martial arts!

Summary: Reader from Johns Hopkins University
Review: For many years I have been learning several martial art courses, among them Aikido. This book, in my humble opinion, is one of the best resources for those who wish to learn the art. Unlike many handbooks, Aikido and the Dynamic Sphere, doesn't focus on purely the training but the actual harmony, ideals, and the art of Aikido. This is definatly an ideal buy for anyone interested in Aikido for better themselves through this artform.
